Direkshun is right in that we need young cheap guys to play at a high level, but you can't really depend on that.

No Chris Clemons news? Wtf is wrong with that dude? He's a really solid football player and is a perfect fit for what we need.

Also this is one of the deepest guard classes in a long time, there no reason to spend a high pick in a guard.

There's a quote on rotoworld that we're going with Commings at FS

There's no reason that we can see. Makes it all the more likely the chiefs will do it.

This year it will be, eh just pick on the new guy Comings or whoever Joe Mays is covering.

You're 100% correct about Mays. That guy can't cover to save his life. He really is a terrible signing.

it's two fold though

Commings plays good then every fan wins

Commings goes through growing pains and we see the same Sutton defense we saw last year, and the fan base will be calling for his head with that same old big play defense in year 2.

And we should expect him to go through growing pains, even if they're not all that serious or glaring.

That's what makes this a little frustrating. Without a high draft pick or veteran in place, we could end up pissing away years on shitty FS play.

That's what happened with Lewis. He went from "decent for a mid round rookie" in 2010 to "eh, had to play next to Slapdash Portabello" in 2011 to "injured, shitbag situation, teammate killed himself" in 2012. As a midrounder who had initial promise, we were always chasing expectations that he would build up and improve in his time in the NFL. Instead, you could say he only got shittier. 2013 was perhaps his worst year as a player.

We risk the same thing with Commings, where he's not shitty enough to flush down the toilet in 2015, but also not good enough to take control of the position.

Normally teams like the Seahawks know how these players will do because they filled in for injured starters or flashed a ton of potential in preseason/practice squad play. That's how they're able to cycle through in this "next man up" philosophy and let everybody but the most important cogs to the team walk in free agency if they get greedy.

The Chiefs aren't doing that here with Commings. If that really is their plan, it's really a pretty big stab in the dark. One that could go any number of ways. It's far from a calculated roster-building maneuver.

They are making guys like Peyton Manning and Phillip Rivers jobs very easy though. Just pick on the new FS with very little experience and hope for results. You can get away with it playing shitty teams with shitty QBs (like the Raiders) but a good QB will put his entire route tree of his WRs for that week right right at the guy with the least amount of NFL experience. He will get everything from double moves to pick plays at his direction and they will just avoid Berry all game.

offseason conditioning starts for the chiefs near the end of April. Team will at least have an idea where Kelce is physically before the draft.

This is the worst argument anyone has ever made about anything.

You're literally saying something will happen because there is no evidence it will happen.

There are many examples of the Chiefs doing things that literally nobody could see them doing before the draft.

And no, it didn't say anything WILL happen.

Worst case scenario, you start Abdullah at a position that's not unreasonable for him, even if he's probably going to be just okay at it. And they still have opportunities to bring other guys in.

I am more than happy to place some bets on young, cheap guys. The best way for them to show value is on the field.
