Cash bar or foot the bill? Wedding poll
So we're attending a wedding in STL in a few weeks, and instead of footing the bill themselves, it's a cash bar.

What are your thoughts on this?

I kinda think if youre having a big fancy all weekend kinda wedding, pay for the bar tab, but I get it I guess, miney wise.

So, what say you?

We had 2 kegs and a cash bar. If you wanted mixed drinks, you're on your own. Everyone was putting money down at the bar though. People would drop $100 here and $100 there. Most of the times at cash bars it turns out like that. People get liquored up and put money down.

Then you let the venue price the hard liquors so if someone really needs a fix they can get it. That's what the wedding I was in Saturday did and let me tell you, I had to trouble getting buzzed up.

Normally I would think that's the way they'd go, but based on this family I was expecting to be sipping top shelf liquor all weekend on their dime.

Getting married next summer. Where we are having the reception does not do kegs so we are getting 2 drink tickets for everyone. I'm not going to pay for people to get drunk.

That's a good exception that makes sense. Offers something while still saving some money. Plus the non-drinkers can give their tickets to those drinking.

You invite someone to a party, you don't charge them for refreshments. Limit it to beer and wine if necessary, but why not just charge them for dinner, too?
