KU's Collins out 6 weeks
http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2007/no...wing_foot_sur/
Kansas University sophomore point guard Sherron Collins, who rolled his ankle in Sunday’s 85-62 victory over UMKC, had surgery on Monday to repair a stress fracture in the fiftth metatarsal of his left foot. The surgery went well, KU coach Bill Self reported, and Collins is expected to miss six weeks. “Everything went great,” Self said. “They had to put a screw in there, we’re looking at it as six weeks. It realistically is a six-week process. The doctors said it’s a six-week deal to heal.” Collins, through two games this season, is the team's leading scorer, averaging 16 points per game. He also totaled 10 assists and six steals in the contest. His seven rebounds Sunday night against UMKC were a career-high. During the second half of that game, he turned his left ankle while driving to the basket. He was assisted to the locker room moments later, but came back to finish the game on the floor. You just hope he comes back 100 percent... stress fractures always are iffy, it seems like.
He needs to keep that 20 pounds he lost in the offseason OFF, or coming back from this will be that much tougher.

Can't believe you guys are downplaying this. This really hurts, he is our best outside scoring option.

It hurts, but the way the NCAA works now, the season really doesn't matter as long as you play well enough to make the tournament. It's all about the tourney now. |

This sucks. I knew there was something wrong with Collins when he came back in from that injury. He didn't look the same, was slower, kind of limping, and couldn't move side to side very quick. If Rush would of declared for the draft this year, I would of predicted Collins to be our leading scorer. We've already looked stagnant on offense. We sit and pass the ball around until we throw it into Kahn and he fumbles the ball around or we the pass gets broken up.

Too bad Collins is out, but I'm confident we can do well rotating Chalmers, Robinson and Reed. Rush comes back in another week or two, and Jeremy Case can get some minutes in a pinch.

Too bad. The Roos didn't get too badly rolled over, either. What was the line?
