Also, he co-wrote a bestseller about his life to this point [Too Fat To Fish] which just went paperback, which is why he's making all these appearances.

He's a talented guy with a lot of demons. Heroin kept him mellow, and going clean has brought out a manic, insecure, side of him. For the sake of his long term sobriety I'm giving him a good bit of slack on it though, ie better he's abrasive, motormouthed, and clean, than mellow, nodding out, and back on the smack. Hopefully he'll mellow a bit as he finds his footing.

Here's a more mellow, humanized, side of Artie on NPR, from last fall, replayed on NPR just the other day [again, gotta get that paperback $$].

He def. has a ton of problems...but hopefully he cleans his ass up for good and just stays a prick. I remember him from those flicks you mentioned but mostly from dirty work cause that was one of my fav. stupid comedies.

Rudd seemed to be the only guy he had any respect for. (Although, I got the feeling he was just busting Sudekis' balls, more than anything.)

Yeah, I forgot to add, people seeing this cold would do well to be versed in Howard's roasts, which take it up a notch even from the Comedy Central Roasts. Comedians going EVERYWHERE to 'dozens' everyone in the room. That's where a lot of what you're seeing on there got it's start.

MoF, the only guy who's gotten in trouble for the harshness of his comments [or more likely, the object of them] is Sal the stockbroker for his Mr. Ed joke about Howard's GF, now wife, Beth.

I honestly think at this point, Joe's madder about how he wilted than anything Artie did.

The debate rages on whether Artie was funny or not, the panning of Joe is nearly universal.

On one hand he got more attention for his show than merited or hoped for.

OTOH, it's Magic Johnson/Chevy Chase attention.

Just caught this last night. My God Joe Buck is so horrible it's painful! He's got the personality of wallpaper. Artie was cracking me up. His imitation of Jack Buck was hysterical.
