Here's the deal. Your doctors and nurses don't want you to have pain either. Let them know that you're concerned about pain. During recovery, if you are in pain, don't hesitate to tell them. If they ask you how much pain you feel on a scale of 1 to 10, don't try to be macho and tell them 2. Give them a big number even if you're afraid they'll think you're a pussy. They're going to do everything they can to minimize your pain as long as they're aware of it.

Blew my knee out in the early 90's, spent a week in the hospital, 3 months in a cast up to my crotch. I got out of the cast and my dumb butt went to the pool and spent 3 hours in the sun getting drunk. Well, needless to say I got lobstersized, had PT the next day and the therapist had me on my stomach trying to force my ankle to my azz. Needless to say, the pain from the sun burn and the knee was excruciating, I was in some serious tears by the time he was done with me. Moral of the story, don't go hang gliding if you don't want your dad to get punched in the gut.

Glad to hear you made it out. Keep up on the pain pills at first. It's easier to control the pain if you don't let it get out of hand. I won't say you can't get addicted, but as long as you're taking them for legitimate pain, you shouldn't have any trouble getting off of them. They'll make you constipated though so be ready for that. Good luck with the rehab.
