You lost me at $39.99. However, if you want to burn a copy of yours I'd be glad to give it a try. j/k
My best shot would probably be a prairie dog at 550-600 yards with my 22-250. Made several shots like that every year out in Kansas. Shot a deer last year off hand at 425 yards with my 257 Ackley Improved - that would be my best on a deer.

I'm seeing ALOT of third-person screenshots...I hope there's some first person element to the game.

Even though I'm all about sniping, I saw a trailer for this a month or so ago and it looked pretty mediocre. However, I will definitely check it out now based on the your impressions.

Its mostly third person, however you can move as normal with the binoculars or scope pulled up.
Most of your time is spent crawling around, (if youre smart anyway...), and using your binoculars to scan the area. Then when you find your target, you can actually see from the third person view how much cover youre going to have, and then you pull up the aiming scope to take the shot as if it were a first person shooter. Youre not going to be doing a lot of open sighted shooting. If you are, youre not playing the game right at all. I usually dont like third person as much, but with this game I like it better because I can see all of the screen around my guy, not just his field of vision. I cant imagine how insanely hard this game would be if it limited you to the first person view at all times. These guys are damn hard to spot, so having the third person view to scan the entire areafor potential targets is nice to have, because then you can switch over to the binoculars or scope to zoom in for a closer look. There is not any other game out there like this. This is really a great game, and it really sets itself apart from the rest of the games by making you play the game as a sniper, not just someone who runs around through the level guns blazing. You die fast if you decide to pull a Rambo. Some of these snipers are well over 100 yards away, so running around with a machinegun is really a poor decision. You have to take your time, scan the area, and pick your shots. Best sniper game Ive ever played. If youre not into sniping though, this game is not for you. If you need the guns blazing gameplay, you might go with Medal Of Honor or Call of Duty, where you can get away with getting shot by your enemy as you rampage into them. This game is all about stealth, and patience. Really satisfying once you learn how to gauge distances and mask your shots, and stay hidden from the enemy. The game is a sniper's dream come true, end of story.

Is there a timer or anything gay like that?
What are the mission objectives for an average level?

On a couple levels, you need to be in a certain point by the time on your clock that you carry, like for an assassination, but the timed part is never an issue. I have always been able to get into my position well before the guy is due to arrive, and if you do get there way early, the game will speed up the target's arrival for you, which is pretty cool.
My first mission was to meet up with an informant, and then rescue his comrade that was wounded in a firefight. You work your way in, taking out enemy snipers and personnel where you can, trying to evaluate the best way in and out, and clearing your route. Then I got in there, sniped out the guy guarding the wounded man, threw the guy up over my shoulder and hauled ass out of there. Another mission was an assassination on an enemy target, and his second in command. I sneaked in, and you have several options on how to handle it, which is really great for replay value. In this instance, I infiltrated the enemy zone, placed a TNT charge near an enemy half track, and infiltrated the hotel from which to take my shot. My target arrived in a car, and when he stepped out, he was history. A 55 yard head shot on him. When the chaos ensued and his soldiers were running around like mad, another shot to the TNT next to the halftrack caused a chain reaction of explosions that killed everyone in the area, including the second in command. TNT+Halftrack+Car that the target arrived in. Massive blast. A thing of beauty. Another was to destroy an enemy fuel dump. Lots of long covert kill opportunities on this one, as artillery is going off about every 7 seconds on this level. I took out the snipers on the trail to the fuel dump, and then from a vantage point on the hilltop I took masked shots ranging from 120 yards, to 185 yards on the soldiers patrolling the fuel dump. All of them dropped without knowing what hit them. Then I infiltrated the dump, placed timed explosives at key points, and hid the corpses of anyone near the train platform that the commander was due to arrive on. I infiltrate the headquarters, silently kill the lone guard with my silenced P-38 and hide him in the side room. The commander arrives and reveals the location of the radio code book, and then I sneak in and kill him, steal the book, and haul ass out of the dump before it goes up. Probably the most fun one so far is covering a spy's escape. You take up a position in the top of a cathedral, signal for him to take off, and its just a big shooting gallery. The agent takes cover behind a statue, and you pick off anyone who poses a threat to him, until his ride arrives. Then, you protect him as he gets in and escapes, and then you make your escape from the area, pausing in a few areas to stop and snipe the men pursuing you, plant tripwire grenades, all sorts of fun stuff. Basicly, every mission in the game is fun that I have played so far. Theres really nothing that is irritating, save for any mistakes that I might make personally, which I can fix. This game is a blast to play.

When you pull up your map, the legend key tells you all of the potential places you can go to take the shot, as well as the objectives list giving you a list of potential bonus objectives, one of which is placing TNT near the half track.
When you creep up there, there is a white square area in the shape of a TNT charge to indicate where you should place it. Alternate firing positions from inside the hotel on that mission include a hole in the wall right near where the guy parks his car, inside a bombed out building across the street, and also underneath a wrecked transport truck. You have several different options on how to handle the mission, which is really cool, because you can try out different areas the next time you play that mission. Once a mission is completed, it becomes available to play at any time, on any difficulty level you choose.

Several.
I had identified a sniper hiding amongst some bushes, lying down on the ground. As I moved into position to take him out, I neglected to view my surroundings, because there was a roving patrol probably 30 yards from my position that I didnt see. I missed the timing on masking the shot, and when he died and I dropped the scope, seconds later the dirt in front of me, and next to me was getting ripped with machinegun fire, and one guy topped the hill in a dead run, with two others right behind him. The guys at the fuel dump headquarters were alerted as well, and I took that first guy to top the hill down with a "bait" shot to slow his buddies down when they stopped to help him, and took off running, hiding in a pile of bricks that had been the result of a blast near a train tunnel. My camo was at 75%, but the area was crawling with enemy troops. Using sound masking I was able to get about five of them, but then I messed up on a shot, someone heard/saw me, and as I tried to get to another place to take cover, I was killed.

Sounds a little too deep for my my tastes. I like either RPG's or something I can pick up and play for a few minutes and walk away. (Odd combo, I know).
I'll check it out though. If it inspired you to write that kinda review, I'm sure it won't suck. |

This isnt really a pick up and play type of game, so you should be aware of that.
This is one of those where each mission takes you around 45 minutes to an hour to complete, with a lot of methodical, slow crawling around and checking with binoculars for enemies before you move. You can save 6 times per mission, so you can save your progress if you get pretty far, but if you dont save and mess up and get killed, you end up having to do all that work over again, and there seems to be some sort of random generation. Sometimes the guards are in the same pattern as when you played before, other times where you saw a patrol, there is no patrol and you run into them elsewhere. Its a really time consuming game, and not one you can just run around in, shoot up a few people and move from mission to mission. It takes quite a bit of time.
