The answer is that the defense and special teams are much, much better than we thought.

If Eli was the quarterback of this Chiefs team, Denver would be scared shitless and Jamaal Charles would probably hit 2000 rushing yards this year.

Eli's first Super Bowl was a very efficient run.

They were not explosive. They were efficient. They were what I would call elite game managers. Alex Smith hasn't shown he can consistently fall into that category. But how do you know he couldn't piece together that kind of performance in the playoffs? He was tested once and while he didn't set the world on fire, he rightfully should have won 2 games (and potentially more)

I think that view is the heart of this thread.

People won't admit it, but Eli is a wildly inconsistent QB who somehow in the playoffs puts together not overly explosive, but extremely efficient play in the playoffs with hugely clutch plays sprinkled in. So while we're pining for guys who put in elite performances week in, week out, Eli and Big Ben are classic examples of guys who have had great postseason success largely on a pretty uninspiring, but very efficient style of postseason play.
