How the **** do you call starting 4 seniors and a lottery pick a rebuilding year?

I suppose if you really look at the team, it was.

Withey was great defensively, but not a good scorer.
Young was all energy, but not great offensively/defensively.
Releford was a glue guy.
McLemore was the scorer.
Johnson was a dumbshit.

KU wasn't a great offensive team. Great defensively, but not offensively as years past. Maybe not rebuilding like 08-09.

You probably call it that after losing 85% of your scoring from the previous year?

Also, I might have to see the replay of the "drive and dish" by EJ in the end there, but I don't think he had an angle for a layup. The defender had position on him and when EJ jumped, he was almost behind the backboard. He probably should have passed to Withey who was inbound hot towards the rim, but it is what it is... making split-second decisions in do or die situations is not easy.

This loss hurts like a mother****er because I felt like the game was in the bag. Oh well, it was a great game and you can't win them all. KU did go and win in the Final Four last year. I'll take consolation in that and the fact that this was another 30+ win season which resulted in a 9th ****ing conference championship.

EJ has ****ed up a lot this season, but I can't hate on the dude. He has been a great Jayhawk who's been playing out of position this year without a single complaint. He's also a huge reason we made it to that National Championship game last year.

I turned the radio off when the birds were up by 11 and they appeared to be cruising about 6-7 minutes into the 2nd half. Thought for sure your birds were going to blow these rodents out.

But damn !!!! That's why it hurts is because you lost to an inferior opponent that you were up on by double digits for 2/3rds of the game.

It's not quite the UNI gut punch with that great 2010 team bowing out early or the disappointment of losing to a relatively unknown VCU squad in the E8, but this loss felt like such a waste of a great effort (which it was for most of the game to dominate a team as good as Michigan) and what could have been a great run into next week. Such is the way this tournament goes.

Agreed, the guy meant so much to this team's success over the past two years and it's quite obvious that KU basketball meant a ton to him. Really sucks that he had to go out that way.

It's Bill Self.

He calls every year a rebuilding year.

The Jayhawks will return 2 players next year that played significant minutes in their rotation. They went 7 deep most of the season with 4 seniors and a 1 and done freshman getting the major bulk of the minutes.

And of course Bill Self calls it a rebuilding year. I even joked to a buddy of mine about Self calling this a rebuild thinking that even he didn't have the stones to try to make that claim.

Self just makes it very easy to dislike him.

The day you start liking him is the day I start worrying. He's averaged a 30-6 record his ten years at KU and puts us in a position to go deep in March every year. As long as I really like him, that's all that matters.

He doesn't call me all rebuilds. This year was more of an unknown than anything. Losing over 80% of your scoring will lead you to say that. It's not rebuilding in the traditional sense, but rebuilding your mindset that Ty and TRob aren't going to be there any longer can be difficult. It just doesn't seem as bad because his teams always play D.
