The 10 QBs we'll talk about when the 2016 NFL Draft rolls around
http://www.cbssports.com/collegefoot...t-rolls-around
Michigan State's quarterback came back for all the right reasons. "I want to get my degree," Cook said. We'll find out if Connor Cook made the right call. Shunning the NFL should be a good enough reason for the redshirt senior wanting to soak up the entire college experience. Well, that and the possibility Cook could be the No. 1 quarterback taken in the 2016 draft. As the world wrings its hands this week over Jameis and Marcus, it's already time to project toward a deeper quarterback draft in '16. So deep a Spartan quarterback could be taken for the second time in four years. (Kirk Cousins, anyone? Don't laugh. The only other Big Ten quarterback taken since the 2011 draft ended is Russell Wilson.) CBSSports.com assembled a list of the top 10 quarterbacks available in next year's draft. These are the guys we'll be talking about soon after this weekend. Just, please, stay away from the crab legs, guys. For now we're going in alphabetical order. Too many variables. Cook put it in perspective, scoffing at a random Internet site that listed him as the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the offseason. "I don't know if that will earn you money," he said. "Someone mentioned that too me. I just kind of brushed it off." Cook will trail TCU's Trevone Boykin and Ohio State's Cardale Jones on most Heisman lists. In his favor, he's a 6-foot-5 prospect playing in a pro-style offense. Going into that senior season, Cook is 23-3 as a starter, 16-1 vs. Big Ten opponents. His school record for consecutive games with a touchdown (16 games) is shared with two pros: Cousins and Drew Stanton. As Cook gets ready for his final season, his story furthers resurgence narrative of the Big Ten. While we celebrate Jim Harbaugh, Melvin Gordon and the defending national champs, let's not forget Cook owns a Big Ten title and Rose Bowl win. The Spartans have been to consecutive BCS/CFP bowls. They've won four bowls in a row overall. Cook has led the Spartans to three consecutive fourth-quarter bowl comebacks. "Coach D [Mark Dantonio] talks about completing your circles," Cook said. "On our Rose Bowl rings it reads, 'Complete your circles.' I want to finish what I started and play my senior year. "There's some unfinished business I want to accomplish -- beat Michigan again, play for another Big Ten championship hopefully and obviously make the College Football Playoff. I couldn't do any of that stuff if I left." For the past couple of years, Cook has been working with quarterback trainer George Whitfield in San Diego. It's flattering that Whitfield took him on and exhilarating Cook has progressed. He is following in the drop-back steps of Cam Newton, Andrew Luck and Johnny Manziel. "I was out there when he was working with Bryce [Petty] and Jameis [Winston]," Cook said. "They all went over to his house to work on Bryce's pro day on a projector screen. He was doing whatever he could possibly do to make Bryce look great, to make Jameis look good. "George seems like a good dude." Good enough to help make returning for his senior year worthwhile. The remainder of the top 10: Ohio State redshirt sophomore J.T. Barrett: Too bad the Big Ten's best quarterback last season can't stop the film right now. He threw 34 touchdown passes and was fifth in the Heisman voting after Braxton Miller went down. Now if he can only win back the starting job. J.T. Barrett was the Big Ten's top QB before getting hurt vs. Michigan. (Getty Images) J.T. Barrett was the Big Ten's top QB before getting hurt vs. Michigan. (Getty Images) TCU redshirt senior Trevone Boykin: Perhaps the nation's best dual-threat. Since 2009, three players have averaged 300 yards passing and 50 yards rushing in a season. The other two are named Manziel and RG3. Boykin will be the face of the program that will start No. 2 (at least) in the preseason. California junior Jared Goff: Tall and wiry, the 6-4 Goff set school records last year for passing yards, touchdowns and total offense. The Bear Raid offense fits perfect. If the Bears start winning under Sonny Dykes and Tony Franklin, all the better. Penn State junior Christian Hackenberg: A sophomore slump didn't sour evaluators on Hackenberg. Absorbing his second coach and second scheme in his second season, Hackenberg threw 15 interceptions and was sacked 44 times. Scouts still like measurables, 6-4, 235 pounds. He'll be better this season with plenty of help at receiver. Stanford redshirt senior Kevin Hogan: He could have transferred or gone to the NFL. He wisely realized there is still work to be done on his game. Hogan is 24-8 in his 2½ years as the starter. His misfortune is that he is the guy to follow the guy, Andrew Luck. Who was going to live up to that? Ohio State redshirt junior Cardale Jones: Mr. Third String is still waiting to make his first home start. His potential remains massive. At halftime of the spring game, Jones chucked it 74 yards in the air in a skills competition. After leading the Buckeyes to three consecutive postseason upsets to win the national championship, Jones made the right decision to return. We can't wait to see more beginning with the kid's fourth career start, Sept. 7 at Virginia Tech. USC redshirt senior Cody Kessler: Mariota was so fantastic he overshadowed one of the all-time Pac-12 seasons. Kessler set USC season records for completions, accuracy and efficiency as well as tying the record for touchdown passes (39). Kessler has been sneaky good. He's armed with the usual array of Trojan receivers. Cincinnati junior Gunner Kiel: The much-traveled Kiel finally played. Turns out he does have the "chest" for the game. His 31 passing touchdowns tied a school record. Sure, he'd only have two seasons in college before jumping to the NFL but don't rule anything out. As Les Miles knows, Kiel has been known to change his mind. Mississippi State redshirt senior Dak Prescott: Dak may have wanted to reevaluate his return to school after being attacked on spring break. A Heisman front-runner for much of the season, Prescott finished eighth in the voting. At least one quarterback trainer on the West Coast has expressed interest in working with Prescott. The return of receiver De'Runnya Wilson will help the cause. |

Honestly, if I'm the Chiefs... I have Murray, Bray who have the same problem. Why not go for broke and sink a ton of money into the OL, say "**** it" to the defense, and then go with a guy like Hackenberg in the first. Then let the three fight it out. |

He's in a really, really bad spot with a coaching staff who refuses to adjust to his talents. He's a terrible fit for read option. He's a big project, but I think he could become a Big Ben type -- guy who can't read defenses, but he's so big that he can keep plays going. But I wouldn't start Cardale for the first 2 years. That's for sure. |

Well the mind of a dumbass is boring and unoriginal. And all that . I haven't been homering since Arizona, last season. But to your topic. I'd probably still go Goff.

but I would like to see Hackenberg behind an NFL OL, even the worst one, I still think he would do well. Penn State's college OL isn't even comparable to the NFL's 32nd ranked OL, that would be a massive upgrade for Hackenberg alone. |

the "transitional" rebuild was a clear failure. It's over the veterans are done. It's time to blow it up. Herm Edwards: trying to continue to win with Vermails talent Fat Scott: trying to rebuild Andy Reid: trying to transitional rebuild from a rebuild 2016: back to a rebuild we never even hit the first rebuild window lol. how sad is that. that's what makes this Chiefs franchise real pathetic. A rebuild from 8 years ago never GOT ANYWHERE. It's a joke. |
