Saw it last night as a RedBox rental. ( tho' I have Netflix)

Great movie about a brave lawyer in the early days of the Cold War. I shed tears at the end. Good tears. Very moving.

I'm surprised it became a rental so soon.

That's interesting as i saw the movie on Saturday, I'm not sure why it would make a person cry at the end but whatever floats your boat BEP.

We got two for one now a days we give up five for one in an exchange. I liked the movie back in the height of the cold war era.

Fantastic movie. For a movie that was up for Best Movie, it flew surprisingly under the radar. Highly recommend.

Wow, I found it highly underwhelming...seriously surprised you loved it so much. To each their own I guess. I mean I like a good drama, but this was long, and flat and dare I say boring. Hanks was good as usual, and the cinematography was great, but other than that...meh.

Watched it on a plane to kill time. I thought it was interesting from an historical perspective. Rather boring and plodding, though, but I suppose that is to be expected.

It IS a slow burn of a movie, for sure. But I think that was kind of what that entire period of history really was, though.

But, but, I don't have a boat Fairplay. I cried because those men got freed and I was touched by this lawyer's integrity and bravery to do the right thing despite being told otherwise and in a dangerous environment. They were happy tears.

I agree, it dragged at the beginning. You really had to listen to the issues this lawyer was faced with as he would be very unpopular. Every lawyer earlier turned down the case. But it was a way to show how we were better than the Soviets. Tension started later, when he went to Berlin. What those commies did to people trying to leave was horrible to see acted out...along with the guns at the bridge. The high level of distrust on all sides could be felt.

Seeing how proud his wife was, and how the faces on the train changed from earlier was just awesome. Also, how the two main characters developed a respect for each other and Abel waiting to help that student go free to return the favor of him not being put to death.

I looked up Abel to see why he had a British accent and why they said he was from England which wasn't explained. His parents fled Russia but they were revolutionaries and agitators trying to bring communism to Russia so the dad was wanted for sedition and had to flee. So Able grew up in England where he went to school but returned after the communist revolution in 1921 Russia believing in the communist cause.

There's supposed to be a book about a whole ring of Soviet spies living in that area of NY at the time. I would love to read it.
