Could the Big Island of Hawaii become uninhabitable?

While BS stories all about hating the POTUS are dominating the news, the severity of Hawaii's volcanic eruption is not receiving the coverage it deserves. I realize that there is coverage but it is sporadic and minimal at best.

It continues to worsen, grow in severity and shows no signs of stopping. I know this is a far fetched prediction but what if the Big Island of Hawaii deteriorates so bad that the island becomes uninhabitable?

Where do these people go?
How much tourism is lost?
How does that affect the rest of the islands and the ability to get insurance?
Will prices rise 20-40% across the rest of the islands?

This thing is getting worse not better and I don't think people are realizing the severity of it. Am I wrong???

Ring of fire has gotten a lot of plate movement in the last 5-7 years.

Interesting. Several sources list the cost to ship a car between Hawaii and California at around $1,000 to $1,500. If you have a decent car, that's less than the cost of selling it and buying a new one at the destination.

https://www.carsdirect.com/car-buyin...-car-to-hawaii

https://www.hawaiilife.com/blog/step...-ship-your-car

https://www.matson.com/pov/booking/shipping_rates.htm

When I was on my freighter, at some point I saw or heard a revenue figure and did some quick math to estimate the cost of shipping one of those standardized shipping containers. My estimate was so low that I thought I must be missing something (it was under $500 for 30+ tons of capacity, recognizing that it was a very rough guess), but when a ship is carrying 9,000 containers, you're spreading the costs out over a lot of shippers. It was less than I paid for my cabin, so next time I might just get one of those refrigerated containers, set it to 68, and bring some furniture and food aboard.

It seems like shipping is much cheaper than one would think.

Depends on the container. Some are freezers or fridges. Usually you can get 3 to 4 cars depending on size. So that is cost per spread out.

We go to China alot and we spend a lot more than that.

Have you been watching the videos of it on You Tube? I have. Some really good ones. Some have geologists explaining what can happen. Saw one today by the military using drones. Flying right over the crater.

There's been a lot of quakes happening too. There's so many fissures cracking open it, then spewing molten lava, it also made we wonder if it was going to survive as an island. Then the volcano itself can explode. Then another video explained how an explosion could cause a massive tsunami that would hurt the other islands and wipe out Honolulu too— had a computer simulation showing it visually. Very dramatic and it's not letting up either. Just really concerning issues. I'd get the hell out of every island.

If it happens, guess there won't be any more Jurassic Park movies or even other filming that gets done there.

Its only a small part of the Big Island. It is called the "Big" island for a reason. There is zero chance it will become uninhabitable, except for the area that is affected. I would not hesitate to go there on vacation.

Side question: Why the hell doesn't Molokai get any tourism? It's got some of the best land features on all the Hawaiian islands.

Good question. They don't have any nice hotels, or much infrastructure at all for tourism. There is a small hotel and a few B&B type places, and only a couple of restaurants. About 3000 people on the island. I know the people don't want big tourism there, but I'm still surprised no resorts have been built there. Lanai, which is smaller, has two resorts.

It's all shits and giggles until the ship hits a rough patch in the ocean and a few containers are lost overboard, including the one you are in. Better bring a scuba tank with you as a precaution!
