Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

https://twitter.com/intent/user?scre...w_p=tweetembed

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

We're talking trades for other tams backups.

(I'd give up our whole draft this year and our next two first rounders for Eli.)

If these guys are all in on Alex Smith, we are in for trouble in KC over the next few years.

Nobody gives a shit how a team gets there. Alex was 6-2 in the regular season? DOES. NOT. MATTER.

The playoffs are a completely different story. If Alex wasn't playing in that game (he wasn't) then his regular season accomplishments mean nothing.
It absolutely matters. If they had gone 2-6 under Smith they wouldn't have even been there to play the Packers.

I don't care if we get 50 cents on the dollar...we can't pick anybody but Geno at 1 and improve the team...outside of Milliner and no way I take him that high...that's a bigger reach than Geno. If we take Joeckel, we are letting a top ten left tackle walk to do so...plus, an equivalent to him can be had 5-10 picks later.

Call up the Bills and tell em you'll swap picks, take their second rounder this year and next and move to 8. They only give up 2400 points for the pick worth 3000. That's like paying to move up to 3 instead of 1....but then you get your choice of quarterback.

I doubt they would turn that down.

Shit, I'd move down again, if I could.
Move down again to the middle of the round and take Eifert.

I know. I was grasping at straws.

The last really successful trade for a team's backup was probably Favre, though an argument could be made for Brunell and Hasselbeck.

This is the most banal viewpoint I've seen in quite some time. "Predictions and analysis mean nothing because literally anything can happen in a game and any attempts at figuring out why things happen is just, like, your opinion, man."

People really think we're gonna be able to trade down?

Nobody is worth trading up for. The last time a team traded with the 1st pick in the draft, it was for a Manning.

I'd say it's about a 12% chance we trade down.

The 49ers finished 11-4-1.

Imagine if they had stuck with Alex Smith and asked him to beat Tom Brady and Drew Brees in road games.

They had to score 65 points in those two games to do that.

Now ask yourself why they switched to Kaepernick when they did.

If they lose those two games they miss the playoffs.

Smith has trouble beating good teams, especially those with top defenses.

Predictions and analysis by amateurs means very little. No matter how opinionated they are.

It is amazing how many of you think that a QB that played in half the games and went 6-2 had nothing to do with that team making the playoffs. Just too stupid for words.

The only way is if a team in the top 10 wants him and the Raiders have interest in him. Its the only way.

Is "making the playoffs" the goal for your team and QB?
