Grossman wasn't the weakest link, the Chicago run D was.

The Chicago run D broke down because the Chicago offense, mainly Grossman, didn't afford them any rest.

I always hear this argument and shake my head at the logic, as it got used by Gunther many times too.

Shouldn't your defense earn their own rest by GETTING THE OTHER TEAMS OFFENSE OFF THE FIELD, 3 AND OUT? If you're gonna drop back 18 yards in coverage and let Manning dink and dunk for first down after first down, your defense doesn't deserve to get rest...

If you watched the Bears all season long, after Tommie Harris got injured, their run defense wasn't the same...definitely their BIGGEST weakness.

Cover 2 is tough when it works. That's what we saw with the Colts D... their speed makes it tough to pass the ball downfield, if you aren't going to run the football successfully you're pretty much screwed. Even the Pats struggled to run the ball in the 2nd half, and it allowed the Colts to catch up. You can't get in 3rd and long, Trent, McNair, Brady, even Grossman tonight.. they all threw picks when they finally tried to go deep. The Colts just have too much speed flying around for you to keep trying to force it downfield.

Grossman played like we all kind of knew he would if he had to play from being behind on the scoreboard.

He is NOT a great QB. He was a sufficient QB on Footballs greatest stage and was outclassed by Peyton Mangina.

He performed like a lot of QB's in the league would have trying to play from behind.

IMO

You do realize that the Bears basically employed the same gameplan as the Chiefs, bend but don't break, and they couldn't get off the field either. If you face a good QB and play a Cover 2, you're done unless you have 7 pro bowlers on D, like the '99 Bucs.

The Cover 2 is a commitment to mediocrity.
