Alex Smith Traded to Chiefs

Well, it looks like the deal is done.

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
49ers have completed a trade with the Chiefs for Alex Smith, tho can't be official til March 12. Chiefs really made a commitment to Smith

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer
Deal has been agreed upon between Chiefs and 49ers. Compensation unclear but I'm told again Chiefs have made a clear commitment to Smith.

His mediocre stats weren't even his worst sin. Watching Alex Smith play brought me almost no joy. The Cassel - Smith stretch of Chiefs was some of the most uninspired offensive play imaginable.

Doesn't matter anyway. The argument isn't that Alex Smith is better than Derek Carr in a vacuum.

In the timeline where we drafted Derek Carr:

We languish even longer in the Save Our Chiefs days for the 2013 season, probably go like 7-9 with some schlub off the scrapheap at QB.

We draft Carr in 2014.

We don't win a Super Bowl from 2014-2017.

We probably don't draft Mahomes in 2017 because Carr is juuuust good enough to not need replacing and still young enough for the front office to not want to trade up for another QB.

I see Foles and Smith as the same tier of "might not **** it up if everything else goes right" QB. Also in 2013 we probably would have had to give more for Foles than we gave up for Smith. He was younger and Philly still saw him as their QBOTF.

That's not dogshit, bro.

His YPA that season was 7.1. Mahomes and Brady's last year was 7.4.

Dogshit was Rex Grossman that same year. He attempted 458 passes for 3100 yards, 16 TDs and 20 INTs. Tarvaris Jackson. Josh Freeman.
In that same offense, Colin Kaepernick had 8.3 YPA. Turds lose their job to Colin Kaepernick.

Kaepernick was really good for those couple years from 2012-2014.

Smith helped them get to the NFCCG in 2011. He would have beat the Giants and helped them advance to the Super Bowl if not for two fumbles from Kyle Williams on the punt return team.

Winning the SB in 2015 was doable with Carr.

When as a fan base you're still debating a guy half a decade and 2 superbowl appearances later, on whether or not he was a good qb, then you know he was a good QB that as apparent as our recent success, wasn't good enough to CONTINOUSLY get you to the big game.... Could we have done it? Probably we were stacked when Smith was let go.

Trying to argue that he wasn't good, or that he was better than good is just dumb...
