Looking back, the last time I believed KU didn't have a realistic chance to win a NCAA title was the 2009 season. That team lost in a close one against the eventual finalist (MSU) in the S16 round. They could have advanced further, but UNC would have always been waiting for them in the final.

Would've been nice to get this 2nd opinion after he initially hurt it.

Imagine if Embiid's family didn't push to get him looked at - he would've felt fine, probably played this week or next week, and re-injured it.

Well shit. Hopefully we'll see a healthy dose of Black & Traylor on the court...at least that lineup has some toughness. It doesn't quite make up for Embiid's presence at the rim, but it does mean KU can play a style closer to "traditional" Self basketball (physical in the post).

Really just bad luck to lose Joel...Feel really bad for him and hope this doesnt affect his spot in the draft.....

KU still has a chance to make some noise....
If Tharpe doesnt learn to stay in FRONT OF HIS ****ING MAN....then
the big guys foul and we wont make it out of the first weekend.....and he
needs to step up on the offensive side too....

Guard play and who we match up with in the bracket will determine how
far KU goes.......

Some of me thinks even if we get to the second weekend he won't be back. His eyes are set on the NBA right now and getting healthy is number 1a for that.

This is the timeline as we know it:

Embiid has first injury that's diagnosed as a strain. After a brief sit out, he comes back and shows no ill signs

Embiid gets injured a second time, in a different area of the back, that is diagnosed as a stress fracture. The family wants a second opinion, which he gets, and confirms the original diagnosis of the second injury.

The "back" is a big area. Just because he had two injuries to his back does not mean they were the same injury or that one became the product of the next.

If you were listening to KK right now you'd think Bill Self is going to jail because he either A. Made Embiid play despite being critically injured or B. The KU doctors are too stupid to find this serious injury that will cripple his career if he were to play another game.

Either way KU is guilty....again

I'm going to put Embiid playing again this year in the same category as I put Embiid returning to KU for a second season. If it happens....awesome, but I won't count on it.
