Off Season Lets Talk Guns

Been a while since we had a guns n' ammo discussion.

Some of you are AR shooters Im sure. Im looking at a Colt 6920. Will be my first AR. Picked up a Glock this fall and really enjoy shooting it. Any feedback on that weapon?

Anyone else been in a buy/sell/trade mood with hardware?

It depends. You need to carefully check specs. Sometimes front sights are made to sit on a slightly lowered gas block (which it looks like you don't have), and if you mount this type of sight on an elevated rail gas block it won't work (meaning the sights will off badly). Also, if you get the Magpuls, DO NOT mount the front sight on the gas block, as the heat can actually melt the plastic. Get a foregrip with a top rail and mount it on that. Or go with something else.

Metal or Polymer hand rail?

I just bought a new Hogue grip for it... Don't like the one that's on it and I don't even know shit about an AR Yet

Personally I like Iron Sights... and can't stand looking at this without any sights at all on it... Got any ideas on some that won't break the bank?

Well there's some practical considerations, for instance due to optics you're not going to be able to cowitness a high powered scope. As frazod mentioned there can also potentially be some issues with heights etc. Frankly if you get a popular good BUIS you're probably going to be ok if you want to add a scope and cowitness later. If for no other reason, if it doesn't work and they are good BUIS you can likely sell them later and get most of what you paid for them and pick up ones that work with your scope.

You could go with something like this:

http://www.amazon.com/UTG-Model-Carb...r15+handguards

Not too pricey and fairly easy to install with the right tool.

I had a conversation with Jamie and dred about this a couple of days ago - I recommend that if you're planning to switch out the handguard, you're better off switching to a free-float rail.

This looks good and has good reviews... Basically pulling that ring down and popping out the old and replacing it with this right? If you don't have one of those ring tools I have saw some vids that say if you have a second person it's not too hard... Is this true?

Look at this one and tell me why the one you posted is better...

They're likely similar, but I'm not familiar with that brand.

Word of overall advice when adding accessories to your AR - if you go cheap initially you'll regret it later, and the cheap stuff you bought will be end up in a junk drawer and you'll spend more money anyway. This is stuff that your life may depend on some day. If you can afford it, get the good stuff. EOTech, Aimpoint or Trijicon for optics. Troy BUIS if you need them. A good quality free-float handguard. A comfortable, functional stock. Quality mags. You get what you pay for. And don't overburdern your rifle with a bunch of useless shit, either.

Good advice I ordered this one
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Main reason because the first review was from a guy with a rifle exactly like mine and he said "
This is a well machined, atrcative quad rail guard. It took about 3 mins to install.
Quote:
It looks exactly like the picture, and appears to be very high quality.
The rails are exactly the same as my Windham SRC scope rail.
I have mounted all the hardware I have on both my sight rail and all 4 quad
rails just to check. They mount exactly the same...

If it sucks, I am out 25 bucks

Anyone have any experience with RGUNS BCG's? I ordered one back in January, and they finally shipped it out today. It was a whopping $140 shipped.

You talking about one of the nickel boron finished ones? Been there, done that. I was unimpressed. Was there anything wrong with it? No. But that shiny finish gets duller and duller over time, and frankly I didn't notice any real difference in ease of cleaning or performance. Reverted to my original BCG and traded that one to my gunsmith in exchange for some pistol work.

Actually went for the base BCG instead of the nickel boron one.

Should be fine, then. I've bought several components from them (they're located about 45 minutes from my house). One of my friends bought his AR from them and has never had any issues.
