I agree. I thought I read somewhere that his vocal chords were damaged and had callouses (so to speak) on them that doesn't let him sing like he did in the good 'ol days.
something like that anyway. They also seem to play 1/2 step to a full step lower since Load I think.

This. That Puppets rendition sounds like shit in the trailer.
Went to a solo tour after Black. They did a bluegrass version of Last Caress/Green Hell. No thank you. I'll just continue listening to the music I fell in love with, you can keep the new stuff.

Metallica has sold over 100 million albums. Their past five studio albums have debuted at #1 in the US. They are one of the last bands (if not THE last bands) in the world that can sell out stadiums worldwide. Yet on the internet, all I read is that they suck now and haven't been worth a shit since 1986. Cracks me up. |

Good = Album Sales now? Like I care how many concerts they sell out. I don't like the new stuff. I guess I should let Hollywood tell my what to like then and stop trying to form my own opinion. EDIT: Also, missed from the post you quoted was a comment about vocals. Can you honestly listen to that trailer and not hear a difference from the original recording? That's a significant difference IMO.

No. "Good" is completely subject and a matter of opinion.
Album sales are not. Which is in direct contradiction to your opinion. If everyone thought they sucked, then they'd be playing clubs like 99.99% of all the other bands in the world. Quote:
What I hear and what you hear are irrelevant. The fact remains that they are, by far, the most popular band in the world, despite what all the internet haters would like everyone else to believe. |

If it were just production values to blame for the vocal discrepancies there wouldn't be videos like this all over YouTube. If you think these "new" versions with better production values are the same you need to get your hearing checked. I used to LOVE going to see Metallica in concert. Their live performances were incredible. They played the same way they did for the albums. Hell, I swear they played a few songs faster! It wasn't this slowed down clean vocals shit. Here's another one in case you couldn't tell the difference on Puppets. And if you missed it, here's some Bell Tolls! God ****ING DAMN that 1989 shit is ****ing awesome! Time to put on some classic Metallica. Haven't listed to 'em in quite a while.

So you liked it better pre-Black album?
On the early albums, there was egregious amounts reverb, multiple delays (long, medium and short) along with the doubling and tripling of the lead vocals, then blended together. What you've heard in the last 15 years is his voice without all the garbage. Dry and raw. |
