The end for T-Rich?

http://www.arrowheadpride.com/2011/3...ets-free-agent

Quote:
Fullback Tony Richardson broke into the league as an undrafted free agent with the Dallas Cowboys in 1994. A year later he came to Kansas City where he played for the Chiefs until 2005.

He is, to this day, one of the biggest fan-favorites in Kansas City.

Richardson is now with the New York Jets but, according to the NY Daily News, he may not be for long.

The Daily News has also learned that second-year pro John Conner will be slated to be the starting fullback in 2011. So, veteran fullback Tony Richardson's tenure with the Jets is likely over. Richardson is an unrestricted free agent.

Richardson will turn 40 years old during the 2011 season so retirement would be an obvious option.

I know many of the folks currently running the Chiefs weren't here in the 1990s and early 2000s when Richardson was part of this team but they should know that he's an important person to Kansas City Chiefs fans.

We'll see if this is it for T-Rich. If it is, boy, wouldn't it be nice to see him in red one more time, even if for just a day?

Fullback is an underappreciated position.

Ladanian Tomlinson had his most productive seasons with Lorenzo Neal as his lead blocker.

Moose Johnston was a big part of the reason that Emmit Smith had so many great seasons.

And T-Rich was a big part of the success that Priest Holmes enjoyed.

Tony Richardson was one of the top 5 blocking fullbacks I've ever seen.

This is true, Derick Blaylock scored four rushing TDs against Atlanta Falcons, Priest had four rushing TDs that day too. The blocking was phenomenal against the number one rated rushing defense.

It was total dommination! We were doing the wave in the second quarter, so much fun that day!

Um dude, if we would have held on to him, how many wasted draft picks could we have saved on FB's that were not anywhere near as good. He may only be a FB, but he is one of the best, period. Heck, just look at all the RB's who had their best seasons behind the guy.

Of course you probably have some weird grudge against him because some coaches decided to try to make him into a starting RB.

See,

Its like we are turning the tables and saying "The Fullback was the true talent behind the talent"

Tomlinson, E Smith and Holmes would have still been successful anywhere no matter who blocked.

I didn't say they were soley responsible for each of thse RB's success.

But the FBs had a hand in the success of those players.

None of those guys are going to get big numbers without blocking, and all three had great blocking from their fullbacks that got them into the open field, or into the End Zone.

Agreed, but I still think letting T-Rich get away, is one of Carls biggest ****ups of his entire tenure.
Lj may have reached the goals that GoChiefs had set for him.

IIRC T-Rich’s problem wasn’t legs it was his shoulders. Seems like his last two years in KC he blew out a shoulder per season, which is part of the price for those blocks he lays on guys like Ray Ray.

Wish him well, nice guy. I would like to see him back in KC in an admin/goodwill role when he retires.
