Suggestions on new TV

looking at around 50 inch.

3d or not? Hearing that 3d is not being done much.

Watch mostly TV and football. Not many movies.
May be looking for a bundle-sound bar included.

Forget about the 3D, but gotta go 70 inch or up.

Having a top line model thats smaller (55) and then this past year talking the girlfriend into buying a 70 inch midlevel LED tv, I'm sold on bigger vs a bit of a bump in PQ if youve got a budget and debating on where its best served.

... and yes its awesome to have a girl that would go for getting that for herself and loves watching shit on it so much she decided to keep it at my place since I have the whole home theater setup & she doesnt want to be bothered with the technical side of electronics.

No 3D. It's a gimmick and not effective.

Personally, I'd go Vizio 65" LED or above from Costco. They automatically extend the warranty by a year and in most cases will take a return nearly 2 years after the purchase date. That can't be beat, IMO.

The soundbar and subwoofer combo is completely dependent on your room and needs. All of the flatscreen TV's, whether it's LED or LCD, need either a soundbar or good old fashioned surround (stereo receiver, multiple speakers, etc.) because a half-inch deep speaker doesn't cut it.

IMO, 3D isn't a gimmick. I mean, maybe it is for a small TV, but on my projector, it's ****ing awesome. That could be because my screen is 140", and you feel a lot more immersed in the movies.

On those TV's, it's a gimmick. It splits a mono signal into stereo and thus provides a fake 3D image.

Ah. I've never actually seen a 3D movie on a television.

Bought a Samsung 46" LCD back when flat panels weren't so flat and a good one ran you about $2000, still running strong today and the picture is still better than 95% of the shit you see hanging on the wall at your local Best Buy.

I've never had any problems with it, so Samsung gets my recommendation for TVs.

Their computer monitors get a lot of good reviews as well so they know a little something about LED/LCD's.

I'll vouch for Samsung too. I got the 900 series back in 08 - 55 inch, and have duel mounted 27 inch top of the line LED monitors by them that fabulous given the different screen demands for pc displays and yet still fantastic PQ.
They aren't cheap and the only way I lucked out getting them was a trader was selling his extras on craigslist unopened. Dude had just setup his home office and had a trading wall- 4 x 4 screens, and these monitors are made to have to option of joining them seamlessly and bracketed together allowing you to display multiple views or or pick and choose up to making it one giant display.

My guess is he overordered and it probably wasn't coming out of his pocket and left the firm with the total in full while making a few bucks, because I got the pair for less than the retail of just 1 normally. Probably helped my cause that his wife kept getting on him and wanting them gone asap because she was tired of them "laying around" and in the way for the last week... spoiled to say the least!

But, I was happy to help.

2nd best deal I found only craigslist only behind some chick that sold me a practically new, it looked like it'd almost never been used, Valentine One radar for a few bucks just north of $100. They go for around $400-430. I figured she had no clue what it was worth as the V1 definitely has a dated look to it since they maintain the same design and do upgrades and service the boards internally. Minus 1 slight revision making it barely noticeably slimmer they have maintained the unit design since like the 80's.

I wouldnt thumb my nose up at them, they used to be as Charles Barkley would say, "turrible", but they've really made huge strides and offer great products for their price ranges.

Also, as Dane said, an alternative audio source is really ideal, but don't piss away your cash on soundbars. Quality receivers by Harmon, Onkyo, and Yamaha can be had at very little and offer a host of added features and internet integration.

I'm happy to rec. both tv and audio for ya if you'd like and I know a price range. Dane was also correct that Costco is a solid option and good prices by comparison except for the absurd deals on tvs you can find right after Christmas.
