Judging by what Dane said, it sounds like he is just a cheerleader. They left the previous staff in place for the X's and O's.

If he's nothing but a PR factory, that makes some sense. Well, at least more sense than letting him anywhere near the football. If the staff is good and he can leverage his ESPN airtime and his good old boy schtick into some good recruits, it might work. But his staff is going to have to be good and he is going to have to stay away from the football.

But It's going to be a trainwreck. Because everything he's ever been in charge of is a trainwreck.

It's okay as long as they're recruiting players who never read football history or look up coaching statistics.

So far I've located a broken ASU shot glass and a used bandanna from a Mexican landscape worker for Buehler's ASU care package.

Exactly. Completely has this delusion that this team should have still been competitive by year 3. Plain and simple, the team should have been blown up and it took balls to do it. And once we blew the team up, the team simply wasn't going to be good for a little while. If anything, his fault for not doing it sooner, but it sounds like Carl Peterson got in the way considering it was Peterson who insisted on the bandaid approach considering how much he tried to pushed for Huard against herms wishes.

Naturally I can't let moronic shit like that stand. So I got into it with him and one of his postulations was Squrimin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards had sooooo many guys play 3 years after Squrimin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards was fired because of young and all that.

So I went through Squrimin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards' final roster and Vermiel's final roster. Miraculously, Vermiel had MORE guys play 3 years than Squirmin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards did. Bottom line is though, Squrimin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards' roster was remarkably bad. Just horrible from top to bottom. Even in his vaunted secondary, it was shit.

Time fades the memory of just how horribad Squirmin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards' roster really was.

Miraculously Turk was one of the longest tenured Herm picks - because Gunther is reeruned.
For the millionth time, vermeil had more players play 3 years because he was there for 5 years and because they spent a bajillion dollars on proven free agents. Vermeil shat the bed in the draft. 5 years and the only true starters to show for it were DJ, Allen, lj, and maybe kawika Mitchell if you're being really generous. Wilkerson and svitek if you're being really really generous. That's barely one good draft pick per year. The rest were special teamers. Of course when you throw $10m at a proven veteran who's played in the league for a while, they're going to be more likely to play 3 more years.

I don't know why you insist on polishing the turd vermeil left behind. Or that anyone would waver on the idea that this team needed to be blown up.

Dude. The three year thing was YOUR metric. You were just spouting off (quite incorrectly) that Herms roster had better young guys that played in the league 3 years. You were just too stupid to fully realize how much of a ****ing ****fest Squirmin Herman Mother****inf Sack of **** Edwards’ roster was.

It’s all in this thread.

Regarding year 3, I don’t think the team should have been A lock for the Super Bowl but the simple truth is that he had flushed everything that was wrong with Vermiels roster and had at least 200 shots at getting someone worth a **** on the team (since you’re white knoghting makes you horribad at math, that’s 156 roster spots he can churn plus 44 during the season. That’s 15 guys to churn at the bottom of the roster looking for someone that can play. Like you know, competent personnel men would do). He had all manner of cap space, huge number of draft picks, excellent waiver wire position, and a pick of UDFA. All that and he ended up with the roster he did.

If anyone can look at that final roster and still blame Vermiel is nothing but a white knighted. Plain and simple. There is nothing at all defensible about the job Squirmin Herman Mother****ing Sack of **** Edwards did here, other than maybe the balls to blow it up. But having balls does not equate to competency and does not preclude you from wrecking the ****ing franchise. Which he did.

I’m not going to go through it with you in here. This could potentially be an otherwise funny thread and I’m not going to muck it up with disapproving your dumb**** white knoghting of this asshat. Besides, there is nothing left to argue. It’s all in the thread above and the other ASU thread.

Let it go man. You were wrong. It happens.

Owned how?

Did vermeil leave behind the oldest roster in football? Yes.
Did vermeil leave behind a team that was in cap trouble in 2003, then bought contracts on credit the next 2 years moving our cap to catastrophic by 2005? Yes.
Did vermeil draft well? Average? No. His draft classes were horrendous
He is the only coach in 20 years that didn't trade an arm and a leg for a qb. Should he have? No, terrible idea. Could he have drafted one? There literally isn't a single qb until Flacco in 2015 who the Chiefs could have gotten without a very aggressive trade up.

Dispute any of those facts. It's funny that the only people saying I'm getting owned are the most overreactionary herm haters out there. There are a lot of chiefs fans here who are plenty critical that recognize that herm, as flawed of a coach that he was, made the right decision to blow this team up and that 2008 was going to suck no matter who was coach. I can't believe there are people out there who seriously think vermeils 2008 leftovers weren't worth blowing up.

It's not a hard concept. Vermeil had 5 years of drafts. Herm had 3. Any notion whatsoever that vermeils draft classes were anything better than a steaming pile of shit is the definition of white knighting. DJ, Allen, lj, and a couple of mediocre bordering starters. For 5 years? That's horrendous.

The Chiefs had cap space in year 3. That doesn't mean they should have spent it. In case you were wondering they were still paying priest Holmes several million in dead money by 2008. Vermeil ****ed the cap in 2003. He then restructured, backloaded contracts like a madman until 2005 when we were in cap hell. Herm is the only coach in 20 years to not trade the moon for a qb... Perhaps that would have made you happy - it could have bought us a few wins to get us to your precious 6-10 mark.

This team needed to be blown up. Not bandaided. Not saved. Blown the hell up. And thank God we had a coach with the balls to do it instead of trading for Chad Pennington and wasting money on a bunch of middling veterans so we could sell the team on a quicker road to 8-8. As if we haven't done that a million times before.
