Anyone own an Acura TL or Acura TL Type S?

Anyone know of these cars? My car has been totalled and their first offer for it was $9500, we are still negotiating to get a bit more. I've seen 2008 Acura TL Type S cars for about $30k. Any way to get it lowered to like 26k or so? I don't have much exp. with car dealings... I am looking at 2007's or 2008's and Newer 4 door Accords/2010 Ford Fusion for my next car.

Just curious if anyone knows of them or likes them?

The Acura's are awesome. My wife and I are looking to get one ourselves. From all the dealings I've done with dealers on them, they aren't willing to negotiate much.

I didn't think they would, i really like this Type S i saw in cars.com that is white and looks like a real nice car. I like that it's a 4 door and is real sporty looking and luxurious. I hope to test drive it sometime this weekend or next week. I saw that the brand new ones run around $40k plus, but the 2008 design looks damn nice. Nice to hear they are good cars.

In my opinion, 2004+ TL's are the perfect (affordable) car, inside and out.

IS there a big diff. between the 2004's and 2008's? I like that the newer ones have Navi's in it

Ya I have a 2005 TL...it's so much fun and really reliable...the Type S has a slightly different body and wheels and I think it has 10 more hp, not really sure if the extra money is worth it. You can get a great regular one for around $20k..

do all your research (aside from test drives - do not buy the day you test drive) from your computer; color, mileage, year, prices etc

make sure the car you're looking for is still on the lot, go in to the dealer on the final day of the month 15 minutes before the close and make an offer. they can unload it, or pay insurance, and financing on it for another month.

No mass prodcued car is in so much demand that they can't come down.

i've always used the line "Here's my offer; if it won't work, that's fine. No hard feelings. I'll just give someone else my money".

I wouldn't let the fact the perception of a parcitular dealer won't negotiate much on price discourage you from making ofrers.. I heard the same thing when we shopped for VWs here in KC. Most people said they could only get them to come down like $200 etc.

We test drove numerous vehicles over a 6 month period until we decided on EXACTLY what we wanted. I then sent the email, got a response (Below original email) with 2 hours. If you make a fair offer (2-4% over cost), it's a no brainer for them. They make your 2-4% + 2-3% factory holdback, + any factory to dealer incentives. If they don't take your offer at 2-4% over cost etc, then just walk. That's a fair offer considering they don't have to 'work' on getting a sale.

Granted, this approach is for new vehicles as the value is known by all parties; used is a little more tricky and requires a bit more of a poker face. Find a good cross section of the exact year, color, features, mileage etc of the vehicle you're looking for and compare the fair market value against the KBB, or NADA. Fair market value is what you should shoot for.

Subject: FW:Offer - 2007 VW Beetle 2.5L

Troy,

Thanks for the update/note, and for the breakdown - it certainly helps.

I'm prepared to offer 3% over cost. My assumptions are listed below:

MSRP: $22,560
Invoice: $20,486 - 429 holdback * 3% = $20,660.00 for the vehicle.

My holdback assumption is conservative at 2% of MSRP. Additionally the offer may be conservative as the 3% doesn't account for any FTD incentives I'm not aware of, etc.

You mentioned the vehicle was 506.3 miles away at a per mile rate of $.50; my calculations show that to be $253.15.

I do have some heartburn regarding the documentation fee as I would assume that would be part of normal operating expenses/overhead, and would not expect it to be included in the total cost. However, If we can't get it removed/waived, there will be less opprotunity for negotiation/concessions on our end with the trade, etc.

$20,660.00 Offer
-----------------
+$ 151.00 Freight (60% of 253.00)
+$ 199.50 Doc Fee
+$ 640.00 Dest Fee.
----------------
$ 21,650.00 Est. Total Cost

Good morning,

I have received your offer and the only discrepancy I see is the transportation charge for us to get and return the vehicle from Indiana. It is 506.3 miles away, but to clarify, we do need to bring the vehicle back to our dealership, making the Total Miles round trip 1012.6 miles x .50 = $506.30 ~ 60% of that total charge is $303.78 ($304.00 rounded to the nearest dollar).

I've got a 2004 TL and I love it. Its got navi and fully loaded, found one with 20k miles and got it for 19,000. The trick is to find guys that but them at auctions. They sell them to you without the markups

Buy em used. If you look on ebay, CL for example you can find 08 335 coupes, which are $50k+ when new for $25-$30k, with 100k maintenance free warranty.

Most people lease BMW's so there are way too many used one's out there.
