Word is that Keeston Terry didn't want to work (weight room, etc.). Maybe he will turn that around under a new coaching staff at a new place. But its obvious that Gill did not have a very good handle on his team. He is the Herm Edwards of college football.

Releasing him from the team is not the same thing as releasing him to transfer wherever he wants. Its a dick move. If a kid asks to leave, fine. If you kick a kid off the team, let him go wherever he wants without making him sit for 2 years.

There are two monster programs in KC, Rockhurst and Blue Springs. Priority one for a coach at KU who wants to secure local talent should be to get in good with those programs.

I'd agree, but you also have to take into account the state of the KU program. Rumors were that a lot of Gill's players (including both of these guys) were failing classes, not doing weights, failing drug tests, etc.

Hell Berglund missed the season because of an assault charge he was dealing with.

Let's not pretend that Weis came in and just started kicking players off some of the only talented players on the team.

Former starting quarterback Jordan Webb had already asked for and been granted his release. Webb graduates in May and said he had no trouble with Weis and that the coach wished him the best.

"He was very supportive," Webb said of Weis. "He released me to any school of my choice. He had open arms with me, really."

Weis is a dick. He's always been a dick and pretty much everyone knows this. I don't think many KU fans expected Weis to come in and be a cute and cuddly players coach.

That said, being a dick doesn't preclude recruiting kids, nor does it preclude winning football games. One parent's 'dick' is another parent's 'firm leader'. His approach is what it is and he's going to turn a lot of people off doing it. At the same time, there are going to be some folks that are drawn to it. Frank Martin, for instance, is a prick. I'm fairly certain I wouldn't ever want to have a beer with that guy. However, I'd absolutely send my kid to play basketball for him because Martin doesn't dick around with idiocy.

Better still, if he really really wants a kid and that kid isn't likely to respond to being a haughty d-bag, he can turn on the charm and appear to be 180 degrees from his reputation, thus making him an even stronger draw to that kid.

Granted, I still think this experiment will fail miserably for a handful of reasons I've already mentioned. But that isn't necessarily because Weis's somewhat prickly personality makes him doomed to failure.
