What Is The First Thing(s) You Should Do When You Get a New Computer?

Bringing home a new laptop tonight. I read they don't come with restore discs anymore. Is this true? Is creating system restore disks the first thing I should do? What else do you do with a new computer to make sure things go right?

(Thank you in advance for your suggestions to fap, load porn, googel "aids tree", etc.)

I don't really feel that Ad-Aware is necessary these days, with the built-in features present in today's browsers and virus/malware protection.
Thanks for the info. I uninstalled Ad-Aware last night and installed Malwarebytes.

Unless his partitions are crazy (500GB on OS and 100GB on storage - or something stupid like that) -- he should just run PC Decrapifier. It's clear that he isn't very savvy, so expecting him to understand how to format partitions, load the OS and then fish out drivers for his hardware -- this is a better solution.

Screw Norton, AVG, Ad-aware, and Avast. Just pick up Malwarebytes Pro (around $20) and he's good to go.

Malware Bytes is a freaking joke. Get that garbage out of here. I've been on enough suspicious sites to know that it is worth it's praise.

thanks for the input Quik.

No, I'm not a guru (obviously, right?) but yes, I have wiped, reinstalled OS, and reinstalled drivers.
Haven't partitioned my pc but have partitioned my sd card on my phone, familiar with the concept.

But you are correct, I don't really want to do this on my new PC right away.

Is Decrappifier a real thing? I thought people were kidding.

Didn't know about those, thanks. Does Winpatrol help me figure out which programs are essential on startup and which I can stop from launching on start?

So you say Malawarebytes is effective, or it is not effective?

I think he meant "not worth it's praise". I think. Either way, it's gotten rid of shit for me before that AVG wouldn't. I downloaded and installed Avast about an hour ago and have it running.

Thanks. I've heard a lot of positive about m-bytes from here and elsewhere. I don't doubt setsuna though I wonder what 'questionable' sites he was on and if they in fact should have triggered the AV.

I dont think so. I left all of the intel and computer manufactures applications stay and got rid of all the Macromedia, Apple etc. It does tell you who makes the app.

Oh it's a real thing alright: http://pcdecrapifier.com/download

And don't listen to Setsuna -- the paid version of Malwarebytes would be a fantastic purchase. You can couple it with something light-weight like Panda Cloud AV (free) if you'd like to be extra safe. I actually run this combo and have for over a year.
I'd also do what Fish suggested and visit ninite.com on the new pc and go ahead and install what he listed -- makes it much easier than visiting each website independently.
You have all the info you need
