With the beginning of a new year, it is time for the 2012 version of the Royals Repository Thread. We've got Hosmer, we've got a 2011-dominating Gordon, we've got Moose, we've got hopefully a killer bullpen, we've got a stereotypical slow slugging DH, we've got easily one of the best defensive shortstops in the AL, we've got a promising catcher in Salvador Perez. Hell, we've got offense and promising prospects galore.

We do not have starting pitching.

Oh yeah, we've also got this:



Get ready for, (as of January 2012 anyway), one of the most confusing puzzles of a baseball season in recent Royals history. Will they suck? Maybe, I don't know. Will we be given a year of 0.500 baseball? Possibly, I don't know. Will they win the division and go to the playoffs for the first time in 27 years? For the first time in a long time, it could happen, I don't know. 92 losses, 92 wins, or anything in between would not surprise a lot of us.

Everything goes here except Gameday threads and really big news. If a giant story breaks, the Royals achieve some awesome milestone, or we sign/lose a highly significant player/coach/mascot/whatever, then it might also deserve its own thread. This being Chiefs Planet, please do not clutter the board with new threads about trivial Royals news or you will only annoy those who come here for just Chiefs football. If you aren't sure and its not a Gameday thread, it goes here.

What sort of stuff often goes here? SPchief explained it well, so I'll just copy that:

If you locate something of interest.. ANYTHING.. deals on apparel, best ways in/out of the stadium, giveaways, great stories from this season or from seasons gone by, rumors, trades, anything.... feel free to post it here.

The Royals doing well in Spring Training or winning the Cactus League has never corresponded very well to Regular Season success. Most teams use that to get better and develop players. The Royals, in the past, have used it as a means to generate enthusiasm and sell more season tickets by saying, "Hey, we kicked some serious Cactus League Ass! I thought Frank gave great commentary for people who have had years of experience in the game and understand the game in general. I could see how he was over the head of casual fans though so I didn't have any trouble with the Royals letting him go. Releasing remarks about him being negative was utter bullshit. He had ample opportunity to be critical and just didn't do it. He also did the Royals a favor by helping take over for Splitt as the team tried to transition away from Splitt as he couldn't continue to announce. Frank helps the Royals out and is let go for his effort. No good deed goes unpunished I guess.
Maybe Hudler will turn out ok, I don't know. But the dude acts like everything he says is somehow new to the game and it gets old in a hurry. Hope they tell him to tone it down and shut the **** up. He doesn't have to continually move his lips

Realistically no one is going to pick KC to be a playoff team yet. Detroit is one of the best teams in MLB on paper and there are 3 to 4 good teams in the A.L. East to vy for the 2 wildcards as well as the Angels and Rangers in the west. Seriously... we don't deserve to be picked yet until we prove it on the field. I seriously doubt we're a post season team yet at this point.

O'Sullivan is an absolute nothing pitcher in this league. He's a symbol of the 'old' Royals where fans and the organization would latch onto guys like him because they were young.

Nevermind the fact that his command is awful, he throws 89 mph and has no breaking pitch to speak of - he's young so he must have promise.

You'll know that the Royals have taken the next step when they now longer give a shit about the Sean O'Sullivan's of the world. When they're bringing guys like him in on minor league contracts with spring training invites and cutting them loose when they come to camp throwing batting practice.

Sean O'Sullivan sucks, but he's a good canary in a cage for the Royals as an organization. Once guys like him aren't prominent parts of your high-minors, it's time to actually get excited about the future of the team.

The ONLY kind of naming rights I would reluctantly accept without being too upset over would be something like Baltimore: "H&R Block Field at Kauffman Stadium"
