Just got back from an extended spring break vacation with the family from out of the country. We come back from a great vacation and I check my voice messages, usual stuff and then there it is.... a buddy of mine from Atlanta has a message for me last Thursday of "Hey my boss just got tickets to Saturday and Sundays round at Augusta he's not going you wanna go? Call me by Saturday noon.""

Next message on Friday " Hey where are you? I thought you would have gotten back to me by now. Oh well I am sure you will let me know by Saturday.

Saturday- Hey I am starting to get worries did I piss you last time or what? (snicker) PLEASE TELL ME YOU’RE OK..... I mean come on Augusta.... The Masters.... On Sunday.

We arrive in the US on Sunday afternoon I get his messages ... I frantically pray to God he has not done anything with the tickets yet. I call up his phone at break neck speed, my wife concerned that there is a family emergency frantically asks what is wrong because of the look of horror on my face and the way I am acting. I told its worse than that as I leave a message on his phone that if he has given away those tickets I am going to kill myself. He calls me back later that night say he will have to send flowers to my funeral because he had until Saturday to tell his boss who would be on the list. He had ended up taking a good client of his. His client was bouncing off the walls when my friend called him on Saturday.

Needless to say the family had a great trip until we got back. I freaking can't believe it. Master tickets on Sundays round gone.

The thing is I gave it too him about 4 months ago when I switched numbers, but he said he lost it. It still would not have mattered since I was out the country I decided not to turn it on till I got back to the states on Sunday.

Years ago I had a sportwriter friend who covered the Masters (and was a big golfer himself). I don't know if they still do it, but back then they had a lottery to pick a few media guys to play a round at Augusta National on the Monday after the tournament. Well, my friend got picked. He was ecstatic. There was no other way he was ever gonna get to play that course.

Then it rained Monday. The media round was cancelled.
