Chiefs have the #1 scoring defense in football after 5 weeks

We are only allowing 11.6 points per game...even more impressive is that the second place team is NE at 14 ppg. That's a sizable lead.

Some other rankings after 5 weeks...

1st in sacks
1st in passes defensed
1st in defensive touchdowns
1st in recovered fumbles
3rd in interceptions
7th in yards allowed per game
4th in pass yards allowed per game
21st in rush yards allowed per game (Philly game skewed this one)

Translation: the defense is killin it

Against a very good defense mind you. He also had the balls to go deep a couple of times including out of his own endzone.

He was also under a lot of pressure, yet numerous times had very good pocket presence and kept his eyes down-field. Another factor in his improvement.

I want to see him continue to take chances, and not scramble at every opportunity when facing the rush. So far he seems to be improving in both areas.

Denver rookie QB John Elway, on Jack Lambert, after Lambert and the Steelers knocked Elway out of his first game as a pro (1983).

Thank God Alex put up 13 big goddamn points (defense was responsible for two field goals + a TD)

You really want to talk about the defense setting up tds?

Not really.

But Alex contributed 13 points in that game.

That's a fact.

I wouldn't say Alex played great on Sunday. He did make the plays when they absolutely had to be made. Specifically when we were pinned at the 1, and when we blew the 13 point lead. He played his best football when things could've went off the rails. That's kind of how it's been all season... ugly at times, but making positive plays in crucial situations. Which is pretty much a 180 from Cassel.

I'm not shitting on the guy, I'm just saying he's got to be better than he's been so far, which hasn't been great, but not bad. He's been average save for the fourth quarters.

That's not a bad thing, but if we want to make a deep run, he needs to be better, along with everyone else on the offensive side of the ball as well, the entire game.

Like second half of the giants game. With our defense, if he plays like that, were a top 5 team and we've got a chance.
His hypocrisy is annoying.

He just argued with how many games Tony Romo has won from 2007-2009, but yet Alex has a higher winning % than Tom Brady since 2011, but it doesn't matter.

He also claims that Alex Smith's one playoff victory was basically a fluke and doesn't describe who he is, but yet Romo has only one one playoff game and has choked in so many other big games.

Romo's definitely a playoff choker.

He's also a far superior QB to Alex.

That is NOT up for debate.

PS: 7 TDs in 5 games is on pace for 22 TDs. I feel good about our bet.

Yes, against a top 10 (maybe 5 I don't remember) defense who's taken the ball away about as much as we have this year.

It wasn't a good performance.

But if that's the worst performance we get from him, we will survive, but it can't become the norm.

I think you are trying too hard to disprove his play. Yes he can play better. But he is showing signs of improvement weekly. The old saying stats don't show the full picture is overused, but in this case it's spot on.

Its not all about stats, its about making plays when it matters. He has done this. Geno Smith had good stats, but he also failed miserably in crucial situations. I'm sure there are stats to back that up too. However many of us liked Geno for traits that were not evident by statistics. Alex so far has shown much more than i thought he was capable of.

Disclaimer: Id still swap fisher for Geno in a heartbeat.

Clay will probably also ignore Alex Smith driving down the field 95 yards from his own goal line at the end of the 2nd quarter against a defense that was top 10 in yards, top 10 in points allowed and 5th in sacks going into the game.

He'll probably also ignore Alex Smith's beautiful 40 yard pass to Avery on the first play of that drive.

Nope. Didn't happen. Not in Clay's world.

He's been wrong about basically everything this year.
