Had anyone tried Pack Up & Go trips?

https://www.packupgo.com/
I'm not a very spontaneous guy. I like to plan everything out. However, for our 22nd anniversary I booked us a three day trip in June with a total budget of 4k.
Just wondering if anyone has been on one of these or knows someone who has.

Also, I work a lot and it is hard for me to get away for more than one or two consecutive weekdays. So I'd rather take a three day trip than a longer trip.

Part of the excitement is the unknown and possibly introducing you to areas or things that you never thought about exploring before. I have no doubt that proper planning could have got us trip that would likely be a better value than what we'll get. I wasn't looking for value; I was looking for something new and different. As I said earlier, hopefully that new and different does include my organ being harvested :-)

I have no idea if I'll feel like I got a raw deal or not. I fully admit I'm nervous but you only live once I guess.

Hopefully you and your wife have a great trip

I do understand the laughs at the idea of St. Louis being your destination, but that's kind of the whole point of an idea like this - explore fun things to do in the U.S. that you might not have thought of. I'm confident that you could find a way to successfully occupy yourselves in St. Louis for three days and have a great time. Pretty much any decently-sized city will have a few cool museums, a few sporting events, maybe a random concert you could go to, some nice restaurants, and a brewery or distillery you've never heard of.

As a caveat (and possibly an explanation for the polarized responses in this thread), my wife and I really value travel and probably get on 2-3 mini-vacations per year. If you're the type to only travel once every couple years, a program like this might not work for you, and that's OK.

I wonder where the people were from who got St. Louis

This type of thing is a gateway vacation. Next thing you know you are getting kidnapped by strangers from some adventure website and wake up on an ocean freighter.

Be careful, have fun, like was stated before it’s just money

memories > money

It seems like several people either don't get the fact that it's OP's choice to spend $4k and not the website's cost, or they otherwise aren't really putting that together..... the site has trips for as little as $400, so it's not like "give us $4k and we'll send you anywhere in the US!"

For that budget, I'm sure it'll be DC, NYC, SF, Seattle, San Diego, etc; and if it is somewhere off the radar, it'll still be pretty damn nice.

I understand what you’re saying but it’s just hard to imagine someone not having a few places in the states they’ve always wanted to visit. On top of that, $4k is a lot of money for just three measly days.

Motel 6 is a little to far down the ladder but for me the hotel/motel doesn't have to be "all that". When I am on vacation I will just be sleeping and showering, etc. there. Most of my time will be spent elsewhere.

When you sign up, they ask you a bunch of questions about where you've gone to on your last vacation, any places you've had on your "want to visit list," and some questions about the stuff you like to do. It's a surprise where you end up, but it's not like they're going to send someone who loves beach vacations to Fargo, ND or anything.

I don't know. I can see how it would appeal to some folks, but based on the testimonials, it seems like a lot of folks end up in Denver.

If they are asking where you want to go, why not just go there?

I would also hate to stay in a hotel anymore.

I suppose the right compromise for me would be either my wife or myself surprising the other with a trip to a city staying at an AirBnB and letting our host give recommendations on what to do in the area that is off the beaten path.

That said, good luck, have fun, and make a lot of memories!

Here is a trip for around $2,000:
Flight from Des Moines to Atlanta for two: $726
Two night stay at cool Tree House AirBnB: $750
https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1415908
City Pass for two (Gets you into Georgia Aquarium, Coca Cola World, CNN, and other museums: $166
Helicopter Tour for two: $130
Southern Food Walking Tour for two: $150
Total: $1922

I had never thought about a quick Atlanta vacation, but that AirBnB looked pretty cool.....
