If the Chiefs go 8-8 or better 49ers get a 2nd round pick.
A third- or second-rounder from Kansas City, the remnant of the Alex Smith deal. Now it can be told: The second draft choice San Francisco will receive from the Smith deal will be K.C.'s second-rounder in 2014 if the Chiefs go 8-8 or better this season. It will be a third-rounder in 2014 if Kansas City is under .500 this season.
So: San Francisco will probably have first-, second- and four third-rounders next year. But if the Chiefs surprise, it'll more likely be a one, two twos and three threes. As we've seen, GM Trent Baalke is dangerous with extra picks in his hands. If Colin Kaepernick is very good, the Niners should be annual contenders for years with the picks laid out that way. The injury history is pretty concerning, I actually forgot about it TBH. Although, with our badass high round picks invested OL, he shouldn't get hit.

I agree that he probably won't be extended until then. I just think it's quite possible that even with an extension, the jury will still be out on the trade.

The truth is, he hasnt been frail since harbaugh got there. he took 44 sacks and 2011, and missed no time. He had a concussion in 2012, but kaep took his job. he hasnt been frail lately. I would suspect that he would be just fine here......

The CHiefs are living up to their name sake. When Alex Smith arrived in KC. He was wearing several necklaces of shiny beads. THe beaver skin loin cloth was all Alex's idea.

I think Alex Smith will have a better season than people will give him credit for.
We know what Charles and Bowe can do for a QB to embellish their productivity. I also believe Kelce is going to be a problem for LB's. Imagine trying to cover a versatile 6'6" 250 lbs TE that can play WR and runs a 4.6? I also believe that Reid drafted Knile Davis to always give Alex Smith this kind of home run threat on check downs. Reid has always been successful with getting RB's YAC in the screen game and this guy score at any point.

The team should push .500 with literally anybody behind center, which is one of the reasons I've been calling the trade 'two seconds' all along.
Just horrendous. |

You said any qb. Alex Smith, when you note what the problem with the Chiefs qbs was last year, (turnovers) is a monumental upgrade in that. So, obviously, not anyone could. And the reason I asked, is because people say to me, "Alex Smith was dog shit before Jim Harbaugh." Which is truth, and at this level, coaching can make all the difference. So, I was asking if you thought that good coaching from Reid, Chilly, and Pederson, could of done the same for Cassel, since apparently any qb would do.

Then assume I said "any QB other than Matt Cassel". There was no keeping him here after 2011 and 2012.
Alex Smith isn't the problem. The insane price they paid for Alex Smith is the problem. They shouldn't have given up one 2nd for him, much less two. I would have taken any QB not named Cassel for free over Alex Smith for two seconds. Because I believe it's debilitating on draft day and detrimental to the long term success of the franchise. |
