He's got a hell of a start, but I wonder about his durability and life after Brady. What he's doing with Brady isn't too terribly different from what Jimmy Graham was doing with Brees or what Julius Thomas was doing with Peyton. Shit, Antonio Gates with Rivers was a ridiculous combo in its prime and Rivers isn't half what guys like Peyton and Brady are. |

Can he? I suppose. Will he? I doubt it, but that does not mean he won't have a very good pro career.

Gonzalez is so durable and in such good shape, he probably could've gone out there this year and put up 800 yards. He really never tailed off. He probably wasn't as fast but he was still a beast all the way to the end. That's what makes it so difficult. Everyone thought Gates was going to be the guy to pass him, but it's hard to sustain that kind of pace for 17 years. Somebody probably will, but even in this pass happy league it's hard to sustain that kind of career.

The other catch is Kelce is about to turn 26 years old. He's had 1 season of production. Tony Gonzalez retired at 37 years old. To match Tony's career production, Kelce has to average:
105 rec, 1189 yards & 9 TDs a year. For the next 12 years. Good luck. |

Kelce is on a team with Maclin, Charles, DAT, and Davis - Kelce simply shouldn't ever see as many balls in his career, so he shouldn't ever have the opportunity to compare in sheer statistics to Tony G. And, as great as Tony G was, when your best offensive player is your TE, then you're not gonna do much as a team.

Travis Kelce should be a dynamic weapon in this offense. Tony was a reliable tool. It is highly unlikely that Kelce can match the years and consistency of Tony. Quote:

Tony's hands were his greatest asset.

Also I doubt Kelce stays as healthy as Gonzo. That's no knock on Kelce it's just that Gonzo was almost never injured and was relatively healthy his whole career. That is extremely rare for a guy who played as long as Gonzo did...
