Simma down now.

Mallet's not dead yet. If he finished this comeback, he stays in the conversation.

But I can't see anyone else going ahead of him. That's what I was trying to say to all the folks that where aghast of McShay having him listed as the #2 quarterback that could end up in the draft.

Look - somebody has to be #2. If you don't think it's him, then who is it? Sure, I'll try to come up with some scenarios that have him sliding to the Chiefs, but I don't believe them for a minute. I'd be really surprised if he made it out of the top 10.

He's got a great arm, but his stone feet and his general idiocy are going to hurt him once teams start taking a closer look.

Best case, he's Drew Bledsoe. Worst case, he's Ryan Leaf/JaPorky Russell/Kyle Boller/etc. host of other guys with other-world arms and none of the other skills required to succeed in the NFL.

Blaine Gabbert may end up testing well, but he's not exactly Tom Brady out there when you examine the game film.

There are legitimate questions as to his game acumen as well. If Mallet has to deal with those concerns, Gabbert will have to do likewise.

And while Gabbert is much faster, he's still not really that elusive. Worse still, he can't throw on the run for shit.

Mallet will remain in the conversation for that 2nd slot, IMO. Newton, OTOH, will interview himself right out of it.

Nothing will ever touch Gabbert's. That was unlike anything I have ever seen.

One studies film relentlessly (and is capable of self-study) and is an intelligent, well-spoken guy beloved by his teammates. (GABBERT)

One doesn't work hard off the field, and comes across like an ignorant, arrogant buffoon. (MALLET)

Gabbert is going to crush him in interviews. And his athletic ability is going to kill Mallett as well.

These points are all fair.

That's why I said "when you examine the film" and cited his game accumen only.

I certainly believe Gabbert will test and interview exceptionally well. But you have to go through a bunch of games to find one where he doesn't make some truly head-scratching decisions out there.

I think Mallet settled it with that 4th quarter, though. His defense gave his shot after shot at it and he simply folded. It was very similar to watching the Alabama game. There is just too much film of him out there pissing down his legs when it counted the most.

Gabbert probably made another $5 million today.

Anyone who likes Mallett but doesn't like Gabbert more as a prospect should be deemed clinically insane.

It's past the holidays, but Gabbert should definitely be sending a thank you card down to Arkansas. And another one to a certain intrawebz poster who has noted his likely success for over two years now.

IMO, Gabbert will bust very quickly if he is asked to start from the get go. I dohnt think he has "it" yet. Whoever drafts him better sit him atleast for the first year if not more. I don't think he's too football smart right now. Our system at Mizzou didn't prepare him for shit. If he's started in the 1st year, he's going to be worse than Mark Sanchez IMO because he likely won't have the run game and defense to fall back on.

I wonder if the Chiefs are going to sign a vet or try to find a prospect in the off season?

Gabbert obviously needs to sit for a year, but the guy is intelligent, very gifted, and he's also extremely dedicated. He's also grounded.

He wasn't taking a bullshit major at Mizzou, and if you are to believe his own tweets, he was doing pretty well in advanced finance and econ classes. I know it seems crazy, but when a guy studies 7+ hours for a single final when he knows there's a good chance he might leave school anyway the next semester, it shows that he has his work ethic and his priorities together.

He's got a good family, he's responsible, mature, and his teammates absolutely love him. Couple that with his physical ability and you have a tremendous QB prospect.

The other thing to remember is that it only takes one team to overdraft someone (Tyson Jackson, Tim Tebow). It wouldn't surprise me if several teams took Cam Newton totally off their boards, but I also wouldn't be stunned if either he or Locker were taken in the top 20 picks. NFL teams' boards vary wildly.

I was in Operations Management with Gabbert last semester and he answered more questions and was more prepared than I was. The guy seems pretty stand-up, not a douche bag at the bars and pretty humble when teachers/guest speakers would ask him bs questions about football during class.

He obviously needs some work as an nfl understudy but comparing him to Ryan Leaf/JRussell isn't very accurate.

I like watching players from the local schools making it in the NFL. I just think saying he's a lock first round pick isn't 100%. Most of the draft boards I've seen have those other QBs I listed as going before him.

Leaving this year as opposed to next because of the labor issues is probably a good move for him when looking at the dollar signs...
