Tell me about your beard.

So I'm one of those bald headed men with a luscious flowing beard. I've been growing it about a year now. Trimming it and maintaining it myself. Again...I'm bald, I haven't paid anyone to cut my hair in almost two decades.

Well for its birthday, I decided to treat my beard to a "professional" trimming at Sole Patch Men's Shop.

I was not impressed.

After telling my stylist to fade the sides and keep the length; she ended up about shortening my beard by about an inch and butchered the caterpillar that lived below my nose.

Needless to say, she set me back about 2 months of growth for $20. I could have done that myself and picked up a couple of 6-packs on my way home.

-anyway-

Do any of you with god-like beards have a place you like to recommend?

Also...conditioners, butters, oils...what do you like? I am still experimenting with these products.

And Tyler Bray.

I grew a beard so I wouldn't have to shave or do much of anything.

For me this concern doesn't register.

This. And once the boss thinks it's getting unruly, she'll trim it down to her liking. Since I DGAF about what anyone else thinks about my appearance, she can do whatever with it.

I've had a beard off and on throughout my life, but I haven't had one for probably 10 years. On a recent vacation I stopped shaving just for grins, and so much gray was coming in that I abandoned the experiment and shaved after about 12 days.

No man or woman can properly trim another man's beard. You have to know the beard inside and out, and have already made every possible screw up.

For instance - my beard is now way too short and I have my dumpy Irish chin back - which is why I grew a beard in the first place. But I got my hair cut super short and was trying to match the beard to fade into the haircut. Live and learn.

For the most part I'm getting pretty good at trimming the sides with a guarded trimmer - gradually getting longer from the edge to the middle - then taking the guard off and sculpting the chin area.
