Derrick Thomas’ Son Derrion Would Like Tryout With Chiefs
by Deron Davis | Posted on Saturday, January 24th, 2015

Former Missouri Tiger linebacker Derrion Thomas is looking to follow in his father Derrick Thomas’ footsteps as he considers a try out with the Kansas City Chiefs. Derrion last suited up on the football field for the Missouri Tigers in 2012, and currently the owner of 58 Fitness LLC in Kansas City, Mo. The 6’2”, 240 lb Thomas primarily chose swimming as his main focus during his adolescence, Derrion did not begin to pursue the sport his father dominated until late in his high school career.

Though he believes his passion lies within ownership of his business, he states in an interview with KMBC’s Karen Kornacki, he wants to see if he can latch on in the NFL.

As a former teammate of Derrion’s in the pool, I can attest to his freakish athletic ability. Ability that is similar, on paper, to his father who until this past season was the Kansas City Chiefs all-time single-season sack leader, via cbs sports. Thomas would be a project for sure, but with the talent that lay in his bloodline I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on his pursuit to the NFL.

What the hell. He picked swimming years ago. I can't say I ever even saw him play a snap as a Tiger, and I'm a Mizzou fan.

Nice story and all, but there's a reason he's not on an NFL team.

I'm not saying guarantee him a roster spot on the final 53. Bring him in during the offseason and give him a shot to prove himself. He sucks? Cut him.

Derrick is an idol. I met Derrion at a tailgate with my Red Coater family friends. Very nice young man, and I'm sure his father would be proud.

A swimmer? Maybe we could use him on plays where someone floods a zone.

Hey CP, I have a 4"x6" sketch of DT that was printed in 2009 for his induction into the NFL Hall of Fame. Only 5000 were printed, so this is a very pretty collector's piece. I'd like $25 for it shipped, but I'm willing to work.

Also selling over 200 KC football cards from 1990 - 2014. Let me know who you want, and I'll look for 'em!

Shoot me a PM.
