The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively DONE

The 49ers have expressed to others that a deal for QB Alex Smith is effectively complete. Can't be finalized til league year begins 3/12

Jason La Canfora ‏@JasonLaCanfora

so it's not official, both clubs view it at as it's effectively done. I do not know the other team. KC and JAX are 2 teams that make sense

Geno Smith has very good legs (when he chooses to use them) but if you were hoping Alex Smith didn't... you would be disappointed as he can really run.

Great, now we'll have a bunch of forty niners fans coming over here telling us how lucky we are to have Alex Smith and how we should just thank our lucky stars that the niners would even consider us as trade partners. It's already started.

the thing is they are using numbers pre-Harbaugh

NO ****ING DOUBT HARBAUGH helped Smith. None whatsoever. That makes sense. He went from Mike Nolan to Mike Singletary to Jim Harbaugh.

But if Harbaugh can sprinkle magic pixie dust on any broke dick QB and go to a conference championship game and then a Super Bowl then he's a ****ing God.

so dropping stats to bash Smith because he was thought of as a bust pre-Harbaugh is ridiculous...

we all agreed Reid was a good coach ESPECIALLY with QBs

we all saw what kind of player Smith could be with a good coach ESPECIALLY with QBs

but because drama queen Chiefs fans want Geno Smith SO BAD (and I'm one of these people) they are going to pick and pick and pick to try and compare Smith to Cassel when Smith is much, much, much better and more talented than Cassel. He has better mechanics, better footwork and a quicker release.

Alex Smith doesn't thrill me in the slightest amount. I, however, am willing to see how we address the QB position IN FULL before I have a drama queen cry fest like the rest of you seem to be doing. It's ridiculous.

We knew we needed to overhaul the entire QB position.

can we wait and see what happens on March 12th through the draft before we all chomp down on our cyanide pills?

I remember in 2010 when we spanked the Niners at home, all the Niners fans saying Cassel>>>>>Smith and how much they'd rather have him...

This is ridiculous. FLAT OUT RIDICULOUS.

The only reason you are trading metaphorical picks for Joe Flacco is because of Rahim Moore.

If Rahim Moore doesn't happen no one would argue one way or the other really about Joe Flacco. He'd have 50% of the people saying "yeah I think he's pretty good" and 50% of the people saying "meh, he sucks"

because that's what he was (and perhaps still is)...

In that scenario and I'm going to assume that means we don't take a QB at #1...I'd like to have the following things happen.

Trade out of #1. We'll have to take less than what the Rams got for #2 last year, no doubt...but maybe trade back to Philly and then trade back again to around 9-13 range and I'll assume Geno will be off the board at this point...

so then I'd like to take someone like Tavon Austin around pick #10. Then I'd like to trade back into the later part of the 1st round...around 22 or so...and take E.J. Manual and let him sit behind Smith like Kaepernick did because I need a QB that is an athlete in today's NFL and I think Manual has that potential. I'd have to look into it further because if he's a dumb **** I don't want a dumb **** at QB...Kaepernick, Wilson, Geno...they are cerebral. Yes, I realize I'm judging him in that regard due to skin color I can admit it. I'm sorry, I'm flawed.

So that gets us Austin and EJ with Alex Smith so far.

Then I want to spend the rest of our picks on 1-2 DB's, 1-2 TE's, 1 WR or RB and then a few BPA's from rounds 5-7.
I agree. This is what I said in another post. By picking up Alex Smith, they are adding desire for the #1 pick, allowing them to trade down. They can then trade back into the 1st and get a guy like Barkley or Glennon.

in conclusion;

you're all drama queens

Alex Smith for a 4th isn't a bad move if the Chiefs still address the QB position within the first 34 picks.

*I reserve the right to delete this post if Geno Smith goes to the Raiders and becomes a top 5 NFL QB.*

I get that we've all totally talked ourselves into and have a major crush on GSIII. I'm right there with everyone. But you know what? We did the same thing with Jimmy Clausen.

sometimes the experts are right, sometimes we are right...

Luke Joeckel and Alex Smith will be Kansas City Chiefs. Branden Albert will be testing the market . Colts interested in Albert.

People have debated Flacco on this site for several seasons now, and he's consistently been underrated. Often, posters have completely shit upon him, and it's ridiculous.

The numbers, which I know that you hate, bear this out. That's why they're useful. They tell us, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that players like Matt Cassel ****ing suck. The numbers, over a large enough sample size, don't lie.

Just like when people look at a picture of themselves and claim, "I'm not this ugly." They are. It's real.
