I just saw it. Very entertaining. I'm a fan of the old spaghetti westerns and it certainly pays homage to them. It also has a bit of the blaxploitation feel to it, but that's part of the director's style. It's not going to be on your list of greatest movies of all time but it's a lot of fun to watch. I recommend it. Oh, on the use of the "N" word, it's appropriate within the context of the movie. To be clear I'm the kind of guy that has never used the word conversationally and find it offensive in everyday speach. It was used for effect and served a purpose in the film.

Just got back from Django. Loved it. I need to see basterds again to see where it ranks.
Everyone turned in a fantastic performance but I think Dicaprio was my favorite.

i liked the internal conflict in the mind of a killer about Alexandre Dumas/dogs which brought action, but wasn't happy with how it ended. wasn't that a two-shot pistol?

He tried to get a shot off IIRC but had a poor angle.

The most striking aspect of the movie for me was that the violence against the "bad guys" was over the top with fountains of blood squirting everywhere. The violence against the slaves was always off camera or implied without showing it. The contrast served to highlight the realism of the latter in a very effective and disturbing way. I've never felt more uncomfortable hearing the N-word so much as in this movie.
I thought the movie handled an important subject in a film that was simultaneously respectful and entertaining. |

Jamie Foxx was perfect for that role. I can't imagine Will Smith having done that. Leo was pretty good too. However, Samuel L Jackson made it for me. He kept cracking me up.

Absolutely loved the movie. If Tarantino was trying to create a commentary on white guilt, he did a damn good job of it. I almost turned around and apologized to the black people sitting behind me after the movie.

I still don't really care for the mask scene in this film. Don't get me wrong, it was funny, but it was just out of place to me. Outside of this film, that scene is funny, but within the film it wasn't needed at all.
Your avatar gives me an erection.

At last, Will Smith explains why he turned down the part. Do you believe him?
Quentin Tarantino originally went to Will Smith to play Django in Django Unchained, and that would have been a brilliant bit of casting. The globe's most beloved, safest black superstar shooting a white lady in cold blood? Amazing! But Smith passed on the part, and now he has given Entertainment Weekly his official reasoning. I almost buy this: Django wasn’t the lead, so it was like, I need to be the lead. The other character was the lead! I was like, ‘No, Quentin, please, I need to kill the bad guy! It's interesting to hear a big Hollywood star be open about something like that - he has to be the top guy in the movie, he can't share the spotlight. Of course that's an enormous misreading of Django Unchained on every level, but I also believe that Smith sort of simply didn't get the script. I think there's more behind Smith's passing on the part, including the fact that he was uncomfortable with some of the film's racial aspects and that he wanted to have a rewrite done, but that goofy quote does seem to sum up enough of it. http://badassdigest.com/2013/03/25/w...ngo-unchained/
