Andy Reid brings detail to Kansas City

Nice little article about Reid's "live" practices.

http://espn.go.com/blog/afcwest/post...to-kansas-city

Quote:
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. – The Kansas City Chiefs are breaking training camp in the Andy Reid era for the first time.

The team had their last practice of camp Wednesday. After a planned walk-through on Thursday, they'll head back to Kansas City to prepare for the regular season.

I got a chance to chat with Pro Bowl linebackers Derrick Johnson and Tamba Hali before camp broke. The two stars are like virtually every other player on this roster – they rave about playing under Reid.

“I know spirits are high in 31 other places, but we feel great,” Johnson said. “It was a great camp. Great.”

Both veterans pointed out details of Reid’s camp that stood out to them. Johnson said he was amazed that Reid, who came to Kansas City after 14 years in Philadelphia, had the team practice “live” so extensively every day. Often, teams scrimmage near the goal line.

While practice was controlled, Reid wanted his players to simulate game action every day in many different situations. It worked. Several players thought the preseason opener at New Orleans on Friday was slower than usual because they were used to the pace.

“It just puts you in better position to make plays,” Johnson said. “It’s invaluable.”

Hali was impressed by Reid’s schedule. The team had the same routine every day: Practice started at 8:15 a.m., and then players would hit the classroom later in the day. Many NFL teams rotate the daily schedule.

“It gave you a chance to correct your mistakes easier,” Hali said. “It was great to go back and see what we did wrong and then the next day on the field, improve from it … It meant we made less mistakes throughout camp. It’s just the little things that coach Reid does that has made us a better team.”

As long as we keep it to football, that's fine. But your track record from your contemporaries is that you are a welcher, and a flip flopper.

I on the other hand, could say my mission is to convert you. But, truthfully, I don't really care. You are full of vile, and evilness to the point that I am not even angry. Just feel nothing about the situation. Just keep it on football.

All in all, I liked the Reid hire because he does well with quarterbacks and I still think this team is a quarterback away from almost instantly contending.

I was in the Cowher corner because of his style of defense and the fact that he openly acknowledges the importance of the quarterback position and that he drafted Ben Rothlisberger and got the most out of him.

If Sutton can bring an effective attacking defense and Andy Reid can get the most out of Alex Smith, I like our chances against almost any team in the NFL.

I've limited my interactions to you with football until you had to get all drama queen up in here.

At that point I was just piling on with the rest of this place.

Stop whining.

But there's a risk inherent there.

I guess in the end I'd rather try to find the next great coach, rather than hoping we can get one who used to be great back there again.

Sort of how I'd like to groom our own quarterback...

But for years people have been talking about getting Gruden or Cowher out of the studio and onto the sidelines, and that's just not what I want to do. I see going with Reid as a similar kind of deal.

Which isn't to say it can't or won't work...
Some good stuff here. I just am of the opinion that the team needs some sure fire good will. Reid probably won't be here for more than five years let alone 15, but like Fisher for the Rams or Fox for the Broncos, it may not be a homerun, but its a solid double off the wall hire.

No. Not even close. And the fact that you in fact encouraged display of my personal information, while you yourself had a fit that someone posted personal information about you, means that you are in fact a hypocrite.

So, no. no whining. Now, let it go, talk football, or ill just ignore you until you welch on your bet and I feel like rubbing it in your face.....

That's how this game is going to be played.

That is to say, a coach that's perhaps past his prime, a coach trying to reclaim a degree of success that's now nearly a decade in the past, a coach that we hired directly following two very bad seasons.

But, as I said, he's who we have. There's nothing really to be gained in a "woulda/shoulda" discussion. So I hope he does well. Sometimes a change of scenery works magic.

And he does have some positives. I do far prefer aggressive coaches to anything we've had in my time following the team, and that includes Vermeil, who saddled himself repeatedly to chess-playing DCs - sutton at least attacks, whatever else there is to be said about him....
As is often, I respect your thoughts however, I can't help but think of the articles I have read since he was hired. (No links of course, cause thats not me) The articles were depicting a 'new' refreshed Reid who could concentrate on coaching alone, and not on GM stuff, which they seemed to allude to what really burned him out in Philly...

I got the impression that when Clark hired him, Reid had the opportunity for full control but, wanted to concentrate on coaching alone and insisted on Dorsey to work as GM. This approach, and what we have heard from camp thus far, gives me hope that we have a refreshed, proven coach that wants to get back to winning...

As always...just my humble opinion.....

With maaaaaybe the exception of Gus Bradley or Marc Trestman (only because milkman likes him). But neither of them are the kind of ground-shaking move that Clark needed to bring fans back. His first goal was to hire a head coach IMMEDIATELY before any of the other teams could get their hands on the top guys. It might look strange if he hired Trestman less than 72 hours after announcing he would fix this mess created by the Patriots.
I was intrigued by Trestman.
Years as a success as a cordinator, followed by a highly succesful stint as HC in the CFL.

I was looking for fresh, and the other candidates just didn't excite me.

You better stop or else I'm gonna prove that you watch porn in front of a thousand dudes who also watch porn.

I just hope you aren't into the foot/leg stuff. Because then you'd have something in common with ME...and Rex Ryan...and Quentin Tarantino...and Howard Stern. But that's nothing compared to the poopoo and peepee stuff that somehow, some people enjoy. Also the anime 8-tentacled rapist squid monsters. What's that all about?
