I didn't see this posted, but on 810 this morning, I heard Herm talk about John Wellbourne's eventual return to the team. This would be a boost, wouldn't it?

I thought retirement did solve the problem of a suspension. Ricky Williams retired to avoid a suspension. When he returned to the NFL, he still had to serve his suspension. So, is Wellbourn not actually retired? Is he serving his suspension now? Would he play LT or RT?

I don't know if it'll make much of a difference. He can't play LT can he? Sampson is pretty well settled at RT imo.

Even if he doesn't start he will provide depth. With Svitek and Turley injured we are dangerously thin.

No, he could not because it involved performance enhancing drugs. In fact he can not have any contact (formal or informal) with team personnel during the suspension. Players serving these kinds of suspensions may not attend any games (they may not buy a ticket & sit in the stands).

Players suspended for DUI related stuff may practice, attend team meetings, and attend away games (the player would pay expenses). The player could not attend home games. (At least that how it was for Warfield last year.)

He's not "officially" retired. He never turned in his papers. As far as I know, he's currently "suspended," so he can come back once he's served his time.
