The much-discussed potential trade of Branden Albert from the Chiefs to the Dolphins doesn’t appear likely at the price Albert is currently seeking.

Although the Chiefs and Dolphins can probably agree on compensation — the Dolphins sending a second-round pick to Kansas City — the hangup is that Albert wants the kind of money that the Dolphins aren’t willing to spend. Specifically, according to Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports, Albert wants between $8 million and $9 million a year on a long-term deal.

In other words, Albert is looking for the same kind of contract that left tackle Jake Long got from the Rams — the very contract the Dolphins wouldn’t give Long, which is why he left Miami for St. Louis.

If the Dolphins weren’t willing to pay Long that kind of money, it’s hard to see why they’d be willing to give up a second-round draft pick for the privilege of paying Albert that kind of money. So the Dolphins may need to look elsewhere for a left tackle. And Albert may have to settle for playing this season for the Chiefs, making $9.8 million, and hitting free agency next year.

I think Dorsey and Reid are being completely fair with Branden....they made him an offer, he refused and asked to be traded where he could get the money he wants and Dorsey made it clear that they would trade BA for a second round pick.

JFC, why would you want Albert here if he's gona be a bad locker room guy? That's beyond reeruned. Albert is ****ed because no one's traded for him yet and next year he'll be 30. No one's paying him elite money at the age of 30.

The Chiefs offered him a deal in the window before FA began and he scoffed at it. It was around 7.5 a year average. Albert wanted 9.

Pioli offered him a deal last year too that he rejected because he wanted 30 mill guaranteed.

There are reports saying they met his demands and there were conflicting reports stating they never did.

Even today there was a report that Miami would still be interested in trading for Albert IF HIS CONTRACT DEMANDS ARE LOWERED.

I doubt VERY HIGHLY that after Albert signed his FT, Dorsey told agents "go ahead and negotiate a contract with my player, we will talk about trade compensation AFTERWARDS"

That just doesn't make sense.

The first step to this HAD to be Miami agreeing to the trade compensation before contract talks could begin...when they couldn't agree to a contract, they moved on.

Yes it does. Why would any team enter into a trade without knowing they'd have the player long term? The Vikings negotiated with Albert before we traded him. Percy Harvin negotiated with Seattle before the Vikings traded him. So did Revis...etc.

The teams usually talk compensation first, then team B is given permission by team A (in this instance, us) to negotiate directly with the player. At least that's how I've always understood it.

It was made well known the kind of money Albert wanted to teams shopping...the next step was trade compensation.

Once that was agreed upon, they were able to talk to Alberts agent about contract specifics and that's where the train came off the tracks.

Albert would be a fool to gamble on his back holding up the whole year in hopes of getting more than 7.5 a year as a 30 year old offensive tackle.

He would be wise to tell his agent to take a hike and call dorsey to ask if he can still get the deal they offered at 7.5

38 million dollars is a lot of coin.

If his back issues flare back up, he will be lucky to make half that.
