How I Met Your Mother

I'm really intrigued and have no clue which way they're taking this series finale.

The writers have specialized at hiding dramatic moments ... in fact, I think there are enough that classifying the show as a "comedy" is questionable at times. I still get a catch in my throat when I think about Bad News (the episode where Marshall's dad dies). And I balled the first time I saw it.

So it wouldn't surprise me at all if the show ends with something tragic... like the mother's death/impending death or something like that.

It also wouldn't surprise me if Alyson Hannigan lost it because the show is coming to an end or something like that.

I watched that twice. First time for the emotion, the second to catch every single number in the countdown. So creative.

Only five more eps left folks. Tonight's offering was pretty good.. had a moral, showed some Mother and comically showed some evidence why Ted is the way he is.

That would have been an excellent ending 3 or 4 seasons ago. To introduce a completely new character in season 9 only to immediately kill her feels nothing but hollow (It's going to take some miracle strokes of writing to pull at my heartstrings with this one, not that they can't pull it off).

I think the comment about living through stories... that seemed like a dead ringer to me. The writers mentioned they took a really sudden change of direction. It's an interesting way to end the show, but it sure looks like it's heading that direction.

It was when she asked 'What kind of mother misses her daughter's wedding?' and then Ted started tearing up. Either he's really sad the Mother's mother missed their wedding or he's sad because the Mother won't live to see Penny's wedding (which probably happens from 2032-2040.

She's dead, Jim. Mother**** this show for pulling this gambit.

Part of me thinks due to the dialogue tonight, what you predict is exactly what is going to happen, but they may be using this to set us up for something else. Could something happen to Lily or Robin? Could that have been about them?

All of the gang is supposedly alive in 2030. Robin cannot have kids and she's said to have never been a mother at all. Lily and Marshall seem to only have one kid in Marvin.

The only reason I'd lean the other way is that they weren't exactly subtle in the episode tonight, if that's the direction they're going they pretty much gave it away.

I was thinking this too. Because the show prided itself on twists and turns, and they're giving us a layup here. But I've thought about it every which way, and this seems like the only idea that makes sense. The only other possibilities I see are that they lose their daughter, unless it's a story about losing touch with Robin until the end when she dies. But I think either of those would be odd possibilities. If it's the mother, they may be preparing a slow build-up to it so it doesn't just hammer you in the face.

By the way... any significance to the idea that, from what I remember, Bob Saget didn't narrate any of the flashforwards this week? Actually... don't know if he ever has.

For a show called "How I Met Your Mother", it would be nice if they would actually show the two of them meeting and getting to know each other. Instead they've shown her meeting just about everybody else, they show flash forwards of the two of them as a happily married couple, and they've wasted an entire freaking season building up to a wedding that is the ultimate Deus ex Machina.

I liked every episode of this show until this final season. This season blows. I think the writers are just mailing it in.

There was so much potential lost in cramming the mothers backstory into one single episode this year. For everything they have done wrong this year, I really believe that was their biggest mistake. Now if it is heading where we all think it is heading, we have a new #1 for **** ups this year.
