Syrup: Nectar Or Nasty
Given the obvious popularity of the thread topics concerning restaurants, easy meals and vomiting, I have decided to create a thread about syrup which I like to call, "Syrup: Nectar Or Nasty".
You know, syrup is a lot like life. Sometimes it just gets a little too sticky. And then there are the flavor choices. Wow. It boggles the mind. There are plain old syrups that are just sweet and mapley and then there are those wacky flavors like Eastern Oregon Blueberry that you get at the International House Of Pancakes where they proudly fly the flags of all nations and feature so many syrup varieties that your head spins like a bowling ball on a Tilt-a-Wheel. And don't forget the kind they put on ice cream. Boy Howdy! They have a lot of different kinds and some places let you mix and match them, too. So, what's your preference, Planeteers? Are you syrup people, or what? FAX Disclaimers: Sorry if re-post. |

I had a girl who made me pancakes one morning. (That means you're special) She put peanut butter on them with a light douching of syrup. It was delicious. Just like her.

The pancake makes the syrup is what I always like to say. If you get one of those spongy pancakes (like they make at the IHOP) you simply cannot put enough syrup on it. It just keeps soaking it up. I didn't see any flags though.
My pancakes are thin yet light and are perfect for mopping up syrup without it soaking into the pancake. We don't have flags either. I like Log Cabin, becuase I'm too cheap to buy real maple syrup. Blueberry is okay, too. |

Real maple syrup is good stuff. Corn syrup with flavorings is crap.

Honey is another oddity. How can bee vomit taste so damn good? It's crazy. And, yes, corn syrup syrups are garbage. |

I usually don't use any syrup on my pancakes, I prefer them drenched in butter (not margarine). Although I've been known at times to throw a few sausage patties in between two pancakes and drench the whole mess with maple syrup and butter. I never really cared for the fruity syrups.

Syrup is great. If you mix Karo syrup (corn) with peanut butter you have created the perfect non-meat sandwich filler.
