What to do in KC?

The family and I will be in KC for my second, their first Chiefs game. Also, Sunday is the old ladies birthday. So we want to have a good time. Will be coming into town on Saturday, and staying through Monday night!

We already know what we're doing Monday night obviously, but what can't we leave town without doing?

We plan on eating BBQ a lot. OK Joe's, Arthur Bryant's, Gate's, Zarta's...which ones are musts? Any I missed? Also, on her birthday, I'd like to eat somewhere fairly nice, but obviously without the price tag. Any suggestions?

Probably plan on trying to do the tour of Arrowhead, hit the Power and Light district, the Plaza. I saw "RAIN" the Beatles tribute was in town, think it's worth it? The 14yr. old daughter is a HUGE Beatles fan, so I'm leaning towards it. Is the WW1 museum can't miss?

We're staying at the Marriott in the Plaza, so anything in that vicinity would be appreciated. Thanks in advance guys!

Apparently KC has a Renaissance Festival that just opened for the season. Went to the one in Colorado a few times many years ago (wow, almost 20), had some fun. Beer and turkey legs can't be too bad a diversion!

Still don't know what all we will be doing, but the WW I Memorial is a must. Have a 16 year old along, so the boats 'n bars day is out this trip.

Gates is open on Sunday. There's one at Main and Linwood, which is just about two miles North of the Plaza. There's another Gates near Paseo and Brush Creek Parkway, which is about two miles East of the Plaza. Jack Stack is also in the freight house district just North of Union Station by Crown Center. You can't go wrong with any of those.

The zoo is OK, but Starlight Theater (Rain...the Beatles Musical) has been refurbished and is a really great venue to see an outdoor show. It's clean, in great shape, very nice as long as the weather cooperates. I just saw Mel Brooks "The Producers" about two weeks ago out there and had a great time.

WWI Museum is awesome if you're into military history. WWI museum is open on Sunday, but closed on Monday:

Shopping? Plaza is really expensive, but nice. The Legends out by the NASCAR track in KCK is good. Oak Park Mall in OPKS is good.

Other cool stuff to check out: Casinos, Steamboat Arabia Museum, Truman Library and Museum, Money Museum at the Federal Reserve Bank (this is right next to the WWI Museum) College Basketball Museum at Sprint Center.

Have fun, spend a lot. We need the bucks!

Oh, and the zoo is actually not bad now. They've done a lot of work on it. They have a new otter display (otters are a blast to watch), they have a polar bear, sea lions, and the grounds are in pretty decent shape. It's a lot of walking, which may not be well suited for your wife right now.

take her to Stroud's! She will like the place, has lots of history and the food is very good, has been on food network channel, its pan fried chicken, catfish, and Country fried steak, all served family style. Here is the link: http://www.stroudsrestaurant.com/

KANSAS CITY'S OWN SINCE 1933
Stroud’s Oak Ridge Manor provides Kansas City's best variety of award winning favorites. Located in North Kansas City, Oak Ridge Manor is housed in an expanded 1829 log cabin and farmhouse. Said to be one of the last of the traditional fried chicken restaurants to survive, Stroud's continues to serve Kansas City proudly. Bring the family and come and see us for dinner!
