I just cant believe how miserably Aj Jenkins failed. I mean, of course when he was drafted, my jaw dropped much like when we drafted Aldon Smith. Not sure if you were around then but I was firmly on the Robert Quinn bandwagon, and I went and watched video highlights of the guy and was sold pretty quickly.

I did the same for Aj Jenkins, and with Fleener, Brian Quick, and Stephen Hill still on the board, I was like OMFG.

Went and watched video highlights, and still didn't see it. I just chose to go with the mantra of Baalke and Harbs deserve the benefit of the doubt.

But yeah, all the skills in the world cant make you good if you don't have intestinal fortitude or the want.

All of those players I mentioned have a questionable work ethic, or a sub standard skill set.
I just watched Glenn Dorsey man handle Jeff Allen like he was a rag doll in that preseason game. I think he gets it

Wasn't upset about Aldon..thought it was a gamble..it paid off.

I was quite upset about AJ Jenkins. There were so many more talented players..even WRs available at that pick. Oh well.

Well, as a 49ers fan, I liked Dorsey coming out of the draft. But, when you really look at it, he got by in college by out muscling people and has never really developed a move set.

I liked Ian Williams coming out of college as well, and it wasn't an indictment of Williams. Just Dorsey is more talented than Ian Williams, and shouldn't be behind him. yes, Dorsey will make the roster. But so will Demarcus Dobbs, another udfa, who is more talented than either of them to be honest.

C'mon, we all know how critical it is for these guys to get out, get confident and start making their way in this league. The margins between success and failure are so incredibly small that, if you're not 100% confident in your ability, you're going to struggle.

I think Ryan Sims falls in this class a little as well. Sims was never going to be a star, I'll grant you. But in Sims rookie year, when he broke his elbow and it just fried that season, he was immediately behind the 8 ball. He seemed to lose his confidence there, it never came back and he just shuffled to hell and gone.

We see it a lot. Had Baldwin been a more mature kid, I don't think the thumb would've had an impact on him. But he wasn't (still isn't). After the fight/thumb, I think Baldwin just felt picked on. He felt like his teammates didn't support him and he just flat shut it down. He lost that rookie season because his confidence wasn't there.

Meanwhile, had Jones done what a veteran leader should've done and actually taken the kid aside and worked with him, I don't think he gets down on himself like he did.

Baldwin was a major project that was going to need everything to go right for him to hit. When Jones decided to keep it real with a damn teammate, he ensured that the development curve wouldn't be a smooth one for Baldwin. That was enough to send an immature kid off the rails.

But either way, Baldwin wouldn't have worked in this offense - he's just not the right WR. But I do believe that, had he gotten off to a quick start and ingratiated himself with his teammates, he'd have been a happy, productive WR. I also think he would've been far better in a different system.

It's not Jones fault that Baldwin is an immature dude. But he didn't have to make the situation worse and you keep veterans in your locker room with the idea that they'll improve situations like that. Jones' bullshit didn't.
Do you even know what the fight was over before you call Jones a thug or blame it all on him? I heard Jones was defending Jamaal Charles. And by all means if Jon Baldwin comes walking into a locker room cockin off to the best player on the whole ****ing roster, then the guy deserves a lesson to be put in his place. Very simple. I dont pity him that his progression was stunted by his stupidity and boo hoo none of his peers like his attitude. Well no shit

oh well. Good thing they dumped him and moved on.
Great GMs have misses. We'll see if 49ers GM Trent Baalke learns his lesson from it and takes more NFL ready players in the 1st round, instead of reaches. Yes, I know how it worked out for Aldon Smith.

Still loving the last draft with Eric Reid, Tank Carradine, Cory Lemonier, Quinton Patton was value and Marcus Lattimore was a steal. If Eddie Lacy is a brilliant value pick for the Packers, the Lattimore pick should be beastly for the 49ers.

Hell of a draft, that 2013 draft. A+ draft (I think... still has to pan out) Baalke's best yet, especially since Baalke wanted Andy Dalton over Kaepernick.

Players with 10-cent heads start out in Harbaugh's doghouse. Baldwin may not even make the 53 cut. He would have to come in earlier and work harder than anybody but Kaepernick for Jim to keep him at this point.

10-cent head = worthless. No matter the God-given physical gifts.

Not as great as it could have been at all, but not a total loss. We got a stud, a starter, and a really fat guy who's pretty fun to crack jokes about. Not bad.

Alex Boone was undrafted too. Sometimes you can find some very talented players that weren't considered for the draft for one reason or another. Doesn't hurt that the 9ers probably have one of the best DL coaches in the NFL.

Oh, im perfectly fine with that. Not every pick is always going to hit. Im not worried about it at all. especially since they were willing to get rid of it, admit failure on it, and move on. I completely respect that.

And yes, potentially this 2013 draft is explosive. I was STUNNED they moved up to get Eric Reid, but so far he looks every bit the player they thought he was.

Much better move for the Chiefs. Jenkins has been bad thus far, but I think has more potential to be good. Plus he's only had one year of suckage versus two for Baldwin.

Well, im a tar heel guy. So of course I wanted Robert Quinn, who is playing quite well for the Rams.

So, it could of gone either way. But, yes, I love the aldon smith pick.
