2 generations past your processor and is about 15% faster. I'm coming from a first generation i7 920. I bought it 2 weeks after it was released. This will be a massive upgrade for me at a, roughly, 35% jump from current.

However, in my experience, I rarely notice a difference in a computer's speed from the processor unless the difference is just huge. I see the biggest bang from 1.) hard drive (ssd) and 2.) bus and memory speed. I just thought I'd say that as people tend to get hung up on processor speed.

With that being said, it looks like he has the goods in place to actually be able to take advantage of the faster processor.

Also, don't take that as an insult to your computer knowledge or anything. I just felt the need to make the point.

Very nice build but a 7970 does not quite equal a 770.

Which Corsair SSD are you getting? I have the ForceGT and with some tweaking it can achieve faster speeds than the out of the box version.

Why are you using 1600 memory?

Which ASRock Mobo are you getting? After using Asrock on my current build I don't think I can go back to Asus or Intel branded boards. My Asrock Extreme6/gb is KING of all overclocking.

What cooler are you using for that 4770k ? STOCK COOLER? nonono my friend Newegg has the h100 on sale right now for under a hundred dollars with rebate, and it kept my 3930k within acceptable range even at a 5.2ghz OC

What case are you reusing?

I will still race you with my mega OCed 3930k

Ah yes one more thing, if you are planning on overclocking you need to look into 'delidding' your haswell chip (this voids the warranty)

Without it they run so hot that big OC's cannot be achieved.

Everything I've read points to equal. Not gonna argue it though... it was $110 cheaper than the GTX770 and whatever shrapnel of performance that the GTX is capable of over the ATi isn't gonna be worth that.

Corsair Force Series GS CSSD-F360GBGS-BK

Because I set an internal budget of so much. I could crank up the juice on my current 920 if inclined and squeeze more life out of this one but I'd rather just run stock.

ASRock Z87 PRO4 motherboard

stock fan for now... not overclocking so no need to go crazy. I can upgrade the fan later if I decide to OC.

Can't remember the case off the top of my head but it is a Cooler Master.

Where did you find a 7970 GHz edition for $110 less than a 770?

The cheapest 7970 I see right now is the XFX and its just $50 cheaper than an EVGA/Gigabyte/ASUS 770.

Cool.

I built my current computer in December 2012 and while it's keeping up, I haven't had time to check out serious advances since then.

I'll probably be good for another year. Thanks!
