River or lake?

Which setting do you prefer to camp in?

The river - Set up camp, grab your canoe or inner tube, a cooler of beer and sandwiches, and hit the river! Get back to camp, and heat up the fire.

The lake - Set up camp, grab the boat, a cooler of beer, and your fishing gear and hit the lake! Get back to camp, clean fish, and heat up the fire.

I'm torn. I love to go floating, but I love fresh fish. I think I'd have to go for the river. Nothing like a lazy day on the river, stopping to swim and eat, and then getting back on the river.

I prefer river. Particularly the Current or N. Fork of the White. Why? They are cold as shit below the springs, so when it's 95 degrees outside, the fishin is still good, and the swimmin is even better. Some cold beer, fish to fry at the campside, springs to jump into, it doesn't get any better. I try to float Thursday and Friday though before all the idiots show up for the weekend

I have a friend who keeps talking about going. My dad went yesterday. All the talk I've been hearing has made my summer fever rise.

every year we have a "mens week" where we rent a cabin in eminence and spend some time on the current and jacks fork. go down on a sunday and come back thursday night. works pretty slick for avoiding the tourists. although, i've seen a few of the locals pull some pretty boneheaded shit.

That's awesome, we have the same sort of thing. Last year we didn't catch very manyfish that were legal (one), so we started catching huge crawdads in a bucket. Probably caught 3 lbs of them. Boiled em back at the campsite and poured melted butter over them. Holy crap!!!! Like the freshest shrimp you've ever had. I'll do it every time now.

I envy you guys being so close to nice lakes and rivers. The few lakes we have around Scottsdale/Phoenix are man made things of small sadness.
We can tube the Salt River which is fun.
OTOH Lake Powell isn't too bad a drive and that is a few days of house-boating excellence. Lake Havasu is a good time but hot and intense.

this will be the 3rd year for grandson #1. he's 5 and this year i'm hoping to be able to leave the barb on his lure/hook so he can actually catch one. little guy's snagged me in both hands and one ear before i decided to snip it off. we take the floaters up river and put them in. then we head down to the pick up point and sit, fish, and watch the people float by.

it's a blast. and yes, boiled crawdads are great.

Nah, you just need the right set up.
Glamping might be something you'd enjoy.

I'd have to say that the only thing I don't like about camping is that I pee a lot when I drink. You guys don't know how lucky you have it by being able to pee standing up in the woods.
