I don't know much about HDTV but I notice it says HD Compatability and not HD ready. Could it be that it has a standard tuner that can be swapped for an HD tuner?

It does not have an HD Tuner, you'd have to get it from the Cable or Satellite company.

I have the model of Panny that came before this model. Its a very nice TV..my only knock on it is it can't display 720P..but thats not an issue because Cox uses 1080i.

Therefore, there is no "catch". Thats not a bad price, not a great price.

If you end up buying this one, Google "Avia Home theater essentials"..and buy that DVD. Its worth it It has several calibration routines. You'll notice the difference in the picture quality.

Also..immediately turn down the contrast!

You can do Antenna HDTV, if you get a receiver for it. Those run about 100-200 bucks. As long as the stations you are doing broadcast in 1080i (most do).

Stick with Cable or satellite. The only drawback with satellite is if you want an integrated TIVO with your HD receiver, they cost like 1000 bucks.

I got this one for $1697.00

57" rear-projection TV: Turn the living room into your own personaal theater. Enjoy impressive big-screen images from a good-looking cabinet that's less than 24" deep.

HDTV monitor: Just hook up an HD receiver to experience the brilliant clarity of high-definition programming—TV shows, movies and sporting events will take on a whole new life.

Improved picture: Hitachi's new Super-Contrast II CRTs and High-Contrast 4-Element Lens System combine to produce sharp, accurate images across the entire screen.

Widescreen: The 16:9 aspect ratio screens your favorite films in their original cinematic format, while automatic 3:2 film processing ensures that movies look their best.

A/V versatility: HDMI and HD component inputs deliver the best possible picture from digital video components like DVD players and satellite receivers. Composite, S-video inputs and variable audio outputs make it easy to hook up video game consoles, home theater systems and more.

Enhanced audio: BBE® sound enhancement and SRS® surround sound produce crisp, realistic digital audio that puts the action right in your living room.

A few new technologies will be coming out very soon so prices are dropping. I was wanting the Samsung DLP and I have been watching it for 7 months or so. The TV has gone down in price almost $2,000.

This Panasonic TV is not a DLP or LCD TV that's why it's cheaper in price. I have seen alot of HDTV's around this price because it's just a standard projection TV without the other cool technologies.

This TV does have HDTV!!! You don't need to buy anything additional except your cables.

Here it is for $1,100 http://www.1-877camcorder.com/pt47wx53.html

I should not have spoke because I really can't remeber the names. I know someone who works at Best Buy and also Nebraska Furniture Mart. Supposidly this summer you will see resolutions of like 1080/1080....you will have to spend a $hit ton of money on cables to get this resolution though.
