NJ threatening to take boy from parents

Quote:
VERNON, N.J. – A New Jersey father claims the state is threatening to take his 13-year-old child away from him.

Ethan Chaplin got in trouble with his school after a classmate claimed he was spinning his pencil like a gun. School officials threatened to suspend him over the incident.

Officials eventually backed off and decided no disciplinary action would be taken.

The incident was old news until Ethan’s father received startling communication from New Jersey’s Department of Child Protection and Permanency and Department of Children and Families.

“I received a letter from them saying they had found an incident of abuse or neglect regarding Ethan because I refused to take him for psychological evaluation,” Chaplin said.

So Chaplin agreed to take his son for an evaluation.

Ethan was seen by a social worker, and had his blood drawn and urine taken. In the end, no behavioral problem was ever found.

PIX11 reports that the state is now demanding further evaluation and threatening that if Chaplin doesn’t comply, they will terminate his parental rights and free Ethan up for adoption.

He has even reached out to Governor Chris Christie’s office, who replied they would contact the Dept. of Children and Families to investigate.

Better get those pencils out of the schools now..

One of my neighbor's called the police a few weeks ago because they saw my son outside in my yard shooting his soft airgun (at paper targets). The cop came to the door and actually had the nerve to lecture me that in this day and age children should not be playing with guns, toys or otherwise. I kindly told him to mind his own ****ing business and to remove his fat hippie ass from my property. I'm sure I'm probably being "watched" now.

They would have a stroke at my house. My son has his shotguns, bows and pistol in his room.. They are probably loaded, actually I know his pistol and shotgun are loaded by his bed...

You guys seem to be missing the real point here. **** the pencil is a gun thing, how in the muther**** can they just take his son and put him up for adoption. What gives the state or whoever the right to do that. And not only that, if states do have that right, how do we stop it?

The answer is political, suited for the D.C. rather than the lounge, and isn't going to happen with the voter trends being what they are.

Good for you.

As a child, I witnessed my dad, my brother, and a cop at my kitchen table. Cop was grilling my brother about some burglary or vandalism etc. my brother didn't do anything, but somehow his name came up from someone else etc. the Cop was doing his best interrogating, and my dad interruptedd him and said "Excuse me. is my son being charged with a crime"?
Cop: "well, no. not yet"
Dad: "Son, don't say another word. You (pointing to the cop), can leave now"
Cop: "Sir, we're conduting an investigation....."
Dad: "I don't really care what you're conducting. we're done here. please leave"
nothing ever happened from the investigation or whatever. never heard about any of it again.

it was awesome as a kid to see someone tell a cop to get bent lol. He wasn't a dick about it or anything, just the fact he told the police 'no' was shocking to me. I was probably 7 or 8.

I was a dick about it, but looking back I wish I would have been a little more civil. I was having a bad day to begin with and that shit set me off.

I could call DFS(anonymously) on someone with kids, anyone really and say that child abuse or neglect is going on in their house. The authorities will show up there and if they see something that they don't like or they just don't like the parents they can find a reason or make up a reason to take the kids. It's that simple. Then to get them back they'll have the parents jumping through all kinds of hoops.

I think hysteria is setting in with the recent shootings at schools. ( not to mention some stabbings by kids)

But this is suited for DC. Because this idea of imposing mental health by govt as a solution is going to get out of hand. Again, due to hysteria. This is what some folks are arguing for too.

I'm not sure how many parents, regardless of politics, would go for having their child taken from them over such a trivial incident.
