Bray back on the practice field

RED ZONE
NOVEMBER 25, 2015
Chiefs’ Tyler Bray returns to practice field

Chiefs return quarterback Tyler Bray practiced with Chiefs for first time this season

Chiefs have three weeks to put Bray on roster or return him to non-football injury list

BY BLAIR KERKHOFF
bkerkhoff@kcstar.com

Quarterback Tyler Bray returned to practice Wednesday for the first time this season.

Brey remains on the NFI list (non-football injury), and the Chiefs have three weeks to determine whether to activate him or return him to the NFI list.

In the preseason, Bray signed a two-year extension through 2017. He was signed as an undrafted free agent out of Tennessee in 2013 and spent last season on injured reserved after tearing his ACL in January.

They need to draft another QB in 2016. Preferably earlier rather than later in order to get the top guy that they have on their board at the position.

Daniel will most likely be replaced by Murray as Clipboard Holder #1 in 2016. (Unless they work a decent/more decent contract with Daniel.) Murray is nothing against the cap if they release him. New dude will battle Bray out for "Arm strength potential guy QB#3."

2016 will most likely look like:

Smith
Murray
New drafted QB
Brady wasn't better than Bledsoe either.

Give Murray a shot ,you might be surprised.

But on that question, I do actually believe that Chase is better than Alex.

At the time, Brady wasn't. Bledsoe was coming of signing the largest contract in NFL history and was well on his way to a second Super Bowl in 2001 (loaded Pats team) when he was injured. (He also came back that year to basically win the AFCCG when Brady went out with an injury.)

Murray isn't Brady.

If he was, he wouldn't be shining Chase Daniel's shoes.

Other than a college career that put up good numbers but showed some erratic and questionable decision making, what exactly has Murray shown above and beyond jack and shit at the NFL level?

Murray showed some real growth from last preseason to this preseason.

Who really knows what you have sitting on the bench. Bledsoe/Brady Trent Green/ Kurt Warner . Sometimes all that is needed is opportunity.

In his previous preseasons, including with the Saints, Chase Daniel was an Alex Smith mini-me.

One read, check down, throw away, run.

This preseason he was making quick reads and pushing the ball downfield.

Alex Smith is what he is.

I give him credit for starting to push the ball downfield more than he has in the past, but he slow in his progressions, and still runs away from phantom pressure.

x2, Chase doesn't play scared

I would love to see them give either Murray or Bray a legit shot next year

Can't know that yet.

Not playing scared is great until you pull a sanchez and start throwing picks all over.

Can Chase play that way and not implode?

I think that 2017 is the soonest we're likely to see any kind of competition at the QB position.

Hopefully, Murray and Bray will be advanced enough to actually vie for the starting and backup gigs at that time.

No way to know, but last time I saw him play (San Diego last year?) he seemed hungry and played without fear. I am tired of seeing Chiefs quarterbacks play like they are scared of making a mistake. It has been going on a long time.

We can only hope it happens even then and they don't pick up another cast off.
