Not true. FOXs new channel has college football and basketball, NASCAR, Champions League soccer and MMA this year. They get MLB next season.

PTI is good. Wilbon and Kornheiser have great chemistry.
College Gameday used to be good but now all they talk about is the Top 5 or Notre Dame, USC, Alabama, LSU, and Florida. Actual analysis and insight is replaced by personal interest stories about the players for the above teams.
ESPN is not really good at actually reporting. They get outscooped regularly by Yahoo Sports.
MLB network is great so there is no reason to actually watch ESPN in the summer.
ESPN pretends that the NHL doesn't exist for the most part and Barry Melrose sucks.
They got outbid by NBC Sports for the Premier League.
They are the biggest front runners of all the sports networks.

I tune into national sports media to hear about all the teams. Not just my team. I get that hot teams and hot stories will get more airtime. But when ESPN shoves yankees and red sox downs our throats even when they don't matter, this what happens.

So congrats to ESPN for targeting all those east coast viewers. They just did it at the expense of 30+% of their ratings.

Of course their ratings are down...MLB, NFL and NBA all have their own networks. I watch MLB Network constantly during baseball season. Around the Horn and PTI are good...but what's the point of watching SportsCenter when MLB Network is all baseball, all the time and that's the only major sport in play right now? I don't get my football update from Herm freaking Edwards on NFL Countdown every day...I have the internet for that.

The total focus on NY or LA is only part of it. They have gone the MTV route – appealing to the lowest common denominator and being more “entertainment” than “news”. They pick their little pets (Lakers, Lebron, Tebow, Yankees) and center the entire station around them.

Not to mention propping up trolls like Skip Bayless and Stephen A. Smith.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head here.
Along with just constant repetition. Find something else to talk about. Jeez. You are suppose to cover the world. Leave the East Coast once in awhile. Not everyone lives in Boston believe it or not. Freaking idiots.

Some things I do like: 30 for 30, Bob Ley and Outside The Lines. Mike and Mike (At times) also Colin Cowherd, he might be annoying but if you listen close he speaks the truth more often than not.
Scott Van Pelt is pretty cool also.

Yep. Sports has taken a backseat to entertainment.

I think you're wrong. Cowherd, the best radio personality in sports, says it best. He's paid to get ratings. LA gets ratings. The Yankees get ratings. LeBron gets ratings. San Antonio does not. If ESPN started talking about Salvador Perez everyday their ratings would drop 200%. It is what it is.

They shouldn't be talking about anything every single day. But they sure do.

There are enough teams that they shouldn't have to talk about the same teams all day every day. If they had a weekly show about the Chiefs and other sports teams I like, I would tune in regularly. As it is, they could go under and I wouldn't give a shit

Cowherd is awful. I always wondered who the people were that like him.

Skip Bayless is far and away the most awful "personality" they have on air.

Chris Berman is a close second.

The only guys I can really stand are Reece Davis, Hubert Davis, Jay Bilas, and Kirk Herbstreit.

And Bilas is the only guy out of all of those I actually "like" to listen to.
