I guess you're missing where I'm coming from. I don't see Smith as the answer. I see him as the best option to join a young QB. The Chiefs are drafting a QB 1st or 2nd this year. I don't want Cassel to be the backup, and I don't want the worst FA we can find so that it's the rookie or nothing. Bottom line, I trust Reid with QBs. I trust him to find a good QB in the draft. Heck, in the worst QB year I can remember, he found the best one. As Alex Smith goes, I don't expect him to sign a big deal here, if he wants that he can go elsewhere, but the people saying it'd be Cassel all over again are wrong.

Alex Smith is not going to sign a 1-year deal to come in here and tutor a rook. Is anybody paying attention to why the guy is even on the block?

He wants to leave SF for PRECISELY THIS REASON.
This.

You don't always have to get stupid people to agree with you guys.

You guys know your ****, and those who do this for a living (ie Reid and Dorsey) also tend to know their ****, too. The dumb****s on the radio aren't going to be making the decision.

Take solace in that fact. It's as simple as that.

Smith will be very disappointed then. Because I don't think any team is signing him, and saying, QB position, Solved! He's going to be a short term guy for any team that signs him.

If a team will give Matt Flynn a multi-year deal, they'll give Smith a multi-year deal.

Hell, if it wasn't for Reid and Dorsey - if Scott Pioli was still here - I would have bet money he'd be the starter in KC next year.

Well, if you trust him so much with QB's, why not just draft another one in the 5 round?

So it makes no sense to throw assets at a guy when you can get one who will work the same with a later round pick.
