Troy Smith- Alex had a concussion I think(some injury) and David Carr came in and couldn't even finish the game Alex had the lead in against the Panthers. This was game 5. Thus Troy. Alex retained his job back when healthy. This is the year Alex nearly beat the defending champion Saints in game two. Had a game tying 8, yes the two point conversion, point drive to tie. Defense failed to stop brees with 40 seconds left. He had a 20 something point comeback against the SB champion Packers. Only problem was defense didn't let our offense back onto the field the last 7 minutes of the game. Since he's been back and started the team has been something like 24-8. Since that point I think Alex was one of the winningest Qb's in the NFL since he came back in for Troy.
CK-Concussion, had his team 6-2. Collin Kaepernick is just the better QB. CK made it to the SB. Had a chance to have A POSSIBLE elite, not good/sometimes great QB.

Do you guys really feel like any Qb can really come in and make a difference? If so then who? By reports it seems like the organization and many others don't see Geno as a true #1 pick. Do you waste the pick just because you need a QB? Or do you draft somebody that you feel makes your team better in the long run?

Alex Smith weather you like it or not is/was the best QB out there. Taking a chance on Alex for what he brings to the table i think is worth the chance. If he doesn't work out then cut him. Make a effort at QB next year, maybe even draft someone this year.

Again you guys were 2-14. It's not like you guys are going to be contenders out of the blue, but with Alex there is at least a chance. You seem to have some talented players, and can add more with the number 1 pick(maybe more via trade), and 3 3rd rounders if I'm not mistaken. You also have free agents you can sign. Not to mention a decent/good HC(Very QB friendly just as Harbaugh).

Can Alex come in and get you guys to the playoffs? I dunno. I do think he can at least come in and lay the foundation for you guys. Be a leader in the locker room and not give games away with turnovers. I personally think he is a great fit, and even if he doesn't work out I think what he adds to a team that needs stability.

Paying a 2nd rounder for at the very least a decent "stop-gap", is a big risk, but at the same time it's worth what he will bring.

Geno Smith has the greater upside for long term success yes take Geno Smith. It's not hard to see that Geno Smith has the tallent and skills and the want to be great in him. He is coachable and wants to be coached up to maximize his success. I'd take a Geno Smith 10X before a retread like Alex Smith.

What are your feelings of Matt Barkley? You think possibly move back draft him and get your second back is an option?

I wouldn't complain any if we got Matt Barkley he is not my first choice and if only he wasn't an USC guy. I'd be happy that we took Matt Barkley and be excited too draft a guy who has the accuracy skills that Matt Barkley has.

Am concerned about Matt Barkley shoulder injury.
