this is easy...
a bust at Canton are you kidding? Tony can say whatever he wants and I'm sure he wants to win...but he's made a ton of money, garnered a lot of fame, and will always be talked about with the greats for years to come... You'd trade that for one ring, no fame, and the league minimum for a few years? Ha! |

A bust in Canton would mean you played at a high level for a long time, thus you made big money. You could be a 3rd string clipboard holder and get a ring without stepping on the field. HOF would be a bigger achievement in most cases.

Bust in canton is immortality and recognition as one of the greatest of all time.
Damon Huard has a SB ring, that should tell you something.

I assume that TG gets personal satisfaction knowing that he's headed for Canton, but you know that he still burns for a SB ring.

Agreed in this case I voted for the SB ring. Tony has been secured in the HOF IMO. But being the best in the league is what this is all about. Look at the issue with DT in getting a HOF vote. If we had gone to a Super Bowl there would be no arguement about him getting in the HOF. But everyone has said, "But he never went to a Super Bowl".

Interesing quote from Drummond:
“I made the Pro Bowl, but I really didn’t enjoy it,” Drummond said. “All the losing takes away a lot from personal achievements. They really didn’t mean anything because all you want to do is win. That’s always your first goal, anyway". |

If I could be a 3 or 4 time pro-bowler on a team that won a SB, I'd take that over the HOF. But I'd rather be a HOFer than a benchwarmer or a starter that isn't making an outstanding contribution. |

Gotta look at the guys who are in the HOF and not won a SB. Barry Sanders, Dan Marino, Warren Moon, just a few. Think they would trade a HOF ring for a SB ring? I think they would.
I think you can have a HOF career but if you don't win the SB then you'le have an emptyness left and I think that can be a sad feeling that can't be explained. |

The point of the thread was because all NFL players are very competitive and winning is everything. So it would be mentally draining and difficult to endure losing just to gain Canton. |

I'd take the Super Bowl. I think a HOF player would live with regret not to win a Super Bowl. I'd have to play in the Super Bowl and contribute to the win but I think that would be the greatest satisfaction a player could ask for.
